Serendipity!!! I just recently replaced my broken norecold with a small frigidaire. today I was just heading out to put on a little slide lock that just was delivered to keep it closed when traveling. I thought i'd take a quick break and join my wife who just opened you tube on TV. I saw an AZ expert YT and i wanted to show her a quick sound bite of this guy that has helped me so much. Well It just happened to be THIS you tube. I was just planning to go out and put a couple of screws in that same location. Who knows.. maybe I wouldn't have hit the tube. I was able to secure it using the door bolts. You saved me $400.00!!! This was very timely for me! and for just a moment... I was an expert. THANKS.

I almost couldn't watch when you drilled that new new refrigerator. I've noticed our Magic Chef 10 cu ft(currently in our garage waiting to see service in our '03 Dutch Star DP to replace our Dometic), gets quite warm on the sides of the frig.. I think I'll use VHB tape to hold that bracket on. Years ago a friend of mine hit a refrigerate line in his frig in his apartment while trying to defrost the freezer. Thanks for sharing, I'm sure you have saved some people some big heart ache.

I just installed the Magic Chef 10.1 in our Cougar TT this past weekend. After watching your video, I'm going to use adhesive velcro to hold the doors shut. I had a gap on top of about 1 inch between the cabinet and refrigerator. After trying different ways to seal the gap, my best solution was to use a section of pipe foam (like a pool noodle.) It compressed down and filled the gap perfectly and it looks even better than a wood trim piece I had cut for it.

I feel your pain. I had a dorm size Sub Zero freezer on a shelf above the Splendide washer dryer. All was good until I left on a month long trip. So after it falling against the door and almost out I stopped at a Walmart and bought a drill and bits and some brackets. The first hole let all the cold out. $450.00 dollars later when I got home I ordered it’s replacement and mad brackets to hold ratchet straps over the top. No holes in the new one. I just watched to the end and if and when the Norco ladies I’m going that way. 400 watts of solar and 4 six volt batteries with two 3500 watt generators for backup.

I have never yet seen one of your videos where I haven't learned something REALLY VALUABLE -- and this is certainly one of the more valuable vids. "to err is human" but to learn from mistakes maybe is advancing to a higher level. SHARING what you have learned may be going even further. Like you, sometimes I try to "improve" things only to find out that there was some detail I either overlooked or (like this fridge ex.) was something I wasn't aware of, and that puts me behind, sometimes just in terms of time and effort, many times adding $$ to the expense as well. your "AZ expert" name though is quite appropriate. This is from my Mac "dictionary" on the word "expert": "ORIGIN Middle English (as an adjective): from French, from Latin expertus, past participle of experiri ‘try.’ The noun use dates from the early 19th cent. Compare with experience and experiment." Note the derivative from "try". As I have seen stated before, you never know until you try. You ARE an expert BECAUSE you try! For ex., some of the greatest discoveries have resulted from those who have tried something (penicillin for ex.) and the "failure" led to an even greater discovery. As long as you keep "trying" you will remain an expert! you provide an invaluable service. like many others, I appreciate all your contributions to the RV lifestyle.

James, what about heat dissipation on that particular refrigerator? I did the same thing on a similar refrigerator and found the the left and right side would heat up while running. The most heat I found was coming off the compressor so I did not block off the vents on the outside door. I have seen some installs that added a 12V fan on a switch to exhaust the heat from the compressor to the outside. Due the left and right side heating up I removed some fiberglass batting in the RV and left the walls hollow to allow the heat to dissipate a little.

I have recently purchased a beaver patriot Monticello mainly because of watching Jameses videos. but I am not an expert and think I have purchased a lemon when I got it home I found that the wall between the two slides and the laminated pretty badly and popped out in the middle by the back slide I don’t know if it was from the roads were terrible in Michigan and Ohio not much better in Pennsylvania but when I opened up the small door at the bottom of the shower I found that it had been leaking behind the shower and when it rained is still leaking behind the shower. I know I have to Seal the leak but I am a little lost at what to do about the delamb and was hoping I could get some help. I watched James fix a Winnebago wall that is similar to mine but how do I fix behind the shower unless I rip it out. I started taking down the cabinet and was going to dig in the wall but I have to remove the shower just to get that cabinet out. I could take out the small wall where the door separates the bathroom to the front. I also thought about putting a bigger piece of angle aluminum just to pull that 2 inch bow out of the wall but I don’t know if that would work either. I could remove the pop rivets out of the angle that is there and put bigger ones in but I don’t know that that would hold that piece of aluminum is pretty thin. if you have any thoughts that might help me I would appreciate it thanks

Great video, but my problem is behind the old fridge is the graywater vent. any ideas on changing the vent stack to a different location
@NackDSP
2 жыл бұрын
I looked up the manual for that new refrigerator and found this on page 7 . "IMPORTANT: This refrigerator is designed for freestanding installation only. It should not be recessed or built-in an enclosed cabinet." Where is the heat vented on this refrigerator? I recently discovered that the compressor refrigerator in my RV had the heat dumping coils located in the sides of the box. So when it runs, the sides get hot. If the sides are covered, it can't cool those coils, and it does not work well. I noticed in your video there was no air duct at the bottom like many residential units. I noticed there were no coils on the back, and that the back was sealed in the cabinet anyway. I suspect that the heat dump coil are on the side wall of the unit, similar to the design of my RV's refrigerator. If that is the case, you will want to unblock the vents to the outside. At the very least you will want to put a vent grills in the cabinet side wall top and bottom to let air flow over the refrigerator side wall. A 12V computer fan wouldn't hurt to get the waste heat out of that sealed cabinet. Hope that helps. Love the channel as I learn a lot watching it.

@@iair-conditiontheoutsideai3076 That's great. Most residential units have a vent at the front and a fan that blows air over the coils. That would work fine installed in a cabinet. Maybe that's what you have. If you installed it in the way the manual for your unit recommended it probably works fine. If not, you're probably wasting power making the pump run longer than it would if properly vented. The heat pump in any refrigerator has to dump the heat somewhere. Ignore the manual and get poor performance. What would happen if you blocked all the air flow over the radiator in your car, or covered the outside coils of your air conditioner. I guess folks would comment on how that has "worked".

@@iair-conditiontheoutsideai3076 There are many compressor refrigerators 120V and 12V that are designed to be mounted in cabinets that will fit in an RV. With electric power in an RV being something you want to use sparingly, that would seem to me to be the obvious choice when selecting a new refrigerator. It just seemed a shame to show as an example for lots of people to copy, installation that goes directly against the manufacturers specific installation instructions.

It's a shame it was an expensive learning experience but in the end you learned something. In this case you did more than learn not to put screws in that location, you learned wy you should get a new tool to help you out in the future. I do have to ask what do you think of the Domestic 12v fridges? I really hate my 12v/Propane absorption unit. I know others say they prefer them but I am not one of them. Take forever to cool, never seem cold enough, temp fluctuates if you even look at it, plus it's a fire hazard. The one I ave won't even fully freeze anything but will gladly, after running for a couple of days partially freeze items in the fridge but only on the right side. In all of my RV's this one is the worst. Figured I would look into a 12v. been around them already on boats so I know they work and are efficient. Just want to make sure they hold up to the pounding a motorhome takes.

It just plugs in, there's a 110 plug behind the old fridge

IDK, $1000 in fridges goes a long way toward a new cooling unit from JC Refrigeration .

I want to do this, thr only reason i cant run AC and my refrigerator on solar is because my dometic takes 330w. The gas also doesnt cool as well as electric.

James how many of these have you done? I have the famous norcold and have been weighing the options. I tried to replace the cooling unit but the freight company destroyed it. Was also considering the 12volt conversion so I can retain the ice maker. Or switch to the Samsung, any thoughts?

I thought the refrigerant line was the hot gas used to keep condensate from around the door.

I've been told the Xpert is, X is a unknown quantity, and a (s)pert is a drip of water. So an xpert is a unknown drip.

Leave the RV owners the extra shelfs. They might break one and need a replacement.
