The spitter spatter and binding is because the bearings could be a bit dirty, but the biggest thing is they are dry. You were correct no oil!

breakaway torque is high because bearing isnt well lubricated

Well now I can say that I've been there 😅 It was crazy how cheap some of the stuff was. I still prefer Amazon because it saves me gas money 😅

Yes.... pinion requires a shop press. There are some write ups on bimmerforums about diff rebuilds.

What gear ratio where you trying to swap in? And did you end up getting it to work?

I was trying to put a 3:90 in it. The problem turned out to be that the guy I bought the gearset from sold me a set for a small case diff and it wouldn't fit my case. I ended up rebuilding my diff and just welding it with the stock 2:90 in it. it's been through a couple drift events and it works great, I just wish we had a little more gearing because it can bog out a bit.
