THANK YOU!!! I had been reading a bunch of things, but this showed exactly all the parts of what priming it means, and it's very helpful. Now I get to go do it! : )

I like the video. I think in my case, I can have the pump in my little cabin with the pipe running outside to the well. The just have water inside the cabin for use. Have you done this?

if all your pipework is full of water and holding, dont forget to unscrew the black plug i'm pointing to in this picture to add water there too. pump up the bladder on the back to 25 psi and switch on, if nothing comes out then the pump is definitely faulty or you are sucking air from somewhere.

@bushido5150 yes it can no problem. I use it now to water my garden on a timer. when you choose the type of pump you want look at its specifications. gallons per min - head pressure etc.

hi there great video, got like this but not getting pressure, do you have to pressure the thank before you use the pump, i dont have a diagram, but what and where is the bladder, and what is its function?
@Ianlesliemitchell

the diaphragm system is pretty simple. put it back together when you know it has no holes in it etc. now pressurize the valve at the back to 20 psi, if you cant get air into it then check the valve ,its the same as your car tire. when you have 20 psi in it add water to prime. make sure every joint is air tight in your pipework, this may be your problem too. losing pressure is a no no. ok so you have it set at 20 psi switch pump on and the pressure will build to 65 then cut out.

think about a check valve as a way of keeping the water in the pipes, if you install one at the bottom with a filter the water wont run back out and stay primed , the one at the top of mine isnt really necessary but i like to keep water in the pump area so it would not run dry, thus when it started it had prime and would suck up water from the lower pipework should there be any loss,

Thanks for upload. Am I correct in thinking the pump will turn on when someone opens tap in house and the pump then turns off when tap is turned off in house.

@jason3000tt on the tank itself at the back end is a valve, which looks like a car tire valve, it has a big disc cover over it ,just unscrew that and you will find it. pressurize to about 20 psi with a foot pump or small compressor. the bladder is inside the tank itself behind the chrome bolted area. it needs to be pressurized to help maintain a good flow of water. this should fix your problem. Ian

make sure the direction of the check valve is the right way round , the arrow should point the way you need the water to flow. a tap is your valve on the outlet so not needed. make sure you are sucking water from your well. just sounds like your blocked , so check the direction.

i just spotted you said theres no inlet to the bladder. you have to unscrew the big black disc on the back of the tank to reveal the valve. you can see it in my video with the disc still in place as i point to it. it has indents in it so you only need your fingers to unscrew it.

@joecmetzler was a cheep $100 harbor freight pump, the usual price is around $120ish using coupons helps, take advantage of the deals. I had a split in the bladder and it wasnt holding pressure, i had to take apart and patch the rubber both sides with a tube fixing kit,, i did both sides to be sure. I now have it plumbed into my basement and it runs fine.

am pretty shure my check valve is in the right direction, and yes i found and pressured the bike type valve on the tank to just over 20psi. am not shure if you read my first tread but this pump is not being fead by a well, but three 400gal tanks 6feet above ground could this be a contributing factor. My pump is not the exact make that you have but is a jet pump

turn on your tap and the pressure will drop. to the 20 psi you set the diaphragm at. this ensures you never lose pressure to zero. the air behind the diaphragm pushes against the water to maintain said pressure. it needs no drawings its too simple a system. like i said the problem may well be in a faulty joint make sure all is tight and sealed well before you get too carried away thinking the pumps faulty. Good luck Ian

@Ianlesliemitchell Ok lan, this is an update, i felt that the glan should be filled with water, but this one was closed so tight it wont let any in, so i replace it and it is taking in water so fasten it up and prime the pump, used a small compressor and pressured the tank to 30psi, why because the pressure guage on the pump reads the same, ok this being done i then open a tap in the kitchen and yes the water flows...BUT ONLY FOR TEN SECONDS OR SO THEN NOTHING.TANK READS 30PSI..PUMP 000

it doesnt matter the size of this tank , this does not hold water under pressure its on demand, which means you dont need a big tank.

@Ianlesliemitchell Me again, what can be the problem? i have a one way check valve on the inlet but none on the outlet, would a check valve on the outlet help this problem....THE PUMP IS NOT HOLDING PRESSURE!!!!

@Ianlesliemitchell hey man no pressure yet but i took apart the bladder from the pressure tank, this thing is air tight,am a bit confused as to how this piece of balloon shaped rubber will keep pressure for the pump as it seems to be designed to contract rather than inflate, there is no inlet from the valve to pump air into this thing, now this is confusing me as to what its function is. HELP! I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE A DIAGRAM AS TO HOW ALL THE PHYSICAL PARTS OF A SHALLOW WELL PUMP WORKS.

@cableguyable you dont say anything about electrics, did you plug it in and is the pump running? if so then you may have mechanical issues and the pump should be returned especially if the main shaft isnt turning as you say.

Can this be done with a 1" gas powered water pump? The check valve at top is important I see. I cant mine to pump. I have the valve at the bottom, but not one at the top. Hmmm
@Ianlesliemitchell
6 жыл бұрын
Dskgolferxtrem the check valve at the top is just to keep the pump primed should there be a loss of water before it for any reason . The one at the bottom is the most important . You can use whatever pump you want as long as it works for your application.

+David Alexander Hi David, The well was already in place when i bought the house, my pipe was rotted and when i removed it it was 26 feet long so i changed it for the same length only in schedule 40 pvc pipe. each area is different re the water table, its best if you can go as deep as possible so you can suck up water from the well and have it replenish faster than your taking it. yoy may want to drop a line with a weight on the end to determine how deep your well is and go a foot shorter so you dont suck up sand or dirt. Ian.

+David Alexander make sure all your connections are good,use a filter at the bottom and a check valve to stop water going back down so the pump doesn't have to work hard to draw from a great distance. I will do my best to help, the set up is repetitively simple and should be trouble free once you have it all in place.

8 feet of water doesnt sound a lot, how deep is your well, mine is 26 feet and is mostly water, maybe your running dry too soon before it can seep back into the well and refill, dont forget these pumps are very efficient and get through a lot of gallons per hr,your spring may not be able to keep up and you may need to go deeper
