Thank you for posting this. It is a very good idea to not have to drill a large whole in the side of the van. You did a great job installing it.

A little late for you now but for anyone else doing one of these vans..... If you pop that cover off like you did underneath, and then pop the cover off for the light switch, it's hollow all the way down to the bottom to where that bottom cap is. you we'll see a rubber grommet that can be pushed out and reused. That's where you could run the cable from outside to inside the van. You can just reach down there with your hand and pull it up, then there's a gap in there somewhere where you can put the cord to go towards the front of the van.

Thank you . But what's mean for "and then pop the cover off for the light switch, "

That's good to know! In this case I prefered to have all the wires come through a hole in the plywood wall close to all my electrical connections.

Becky will never figure that out! Great install!

OH boy I am borrowing this one. Thanks for posting :D It is also nice that you didn't have to lop the head off the cord. The rectangle spot is big enough for the plug. Sweet.

Clean install. This is where I ran 30amp into my Promaster. I will be running 15amp into the new Transit here too. Thanks for making the video, please keep it up

Can you run a 30 amp into the Transit too? If not why? Thanks

I would be very worried about that wire rubbing on the sharp edges of the rectangular cutout. Definitely recommend some protection there.

Several layers of cloth/soft electrical tape.

@4:33 I'd still add something behind for the srews to go into and keep the plug from being able to be pulled out.

Hey I just purchased the new ford transit 2023 high top and I want to put in a switch for the rear cargo lights. Right by the back rear driver side door just where you are installing your stuff. There is a plastic plate with a switch on it that controls the rear cargo lights. Is it possible that I can get the information on that cover plate and the switch information so I can get one to put on my Ford transit 2023 thank you so much.

I will share with you what I have learned both first and second hand. Mine did not come with the switch on the back door jam. It's just a blank plate. The other thing to know is the rear cargo lights are controlled by the CAN bus and Body Control Module. So the switch does not break the power circuit for the light but rather sends a "press" signal to the BCM and then the BCM executes as programmed. If you don't have the switch it's possible you don't have the programming in the BCM. I ended up taking the factory lights out and installing my own LED lighting powered by the leisure battery bank. I hope that helps!

And I just discovered in fact I do have that switch. I was thinking of the 12v socket that Ford left off at the factory. My bad.

How has this worked, has the plug stayed dry? Any changes you would make after all this time?

This is such a great question! KZitem and Facebook are loaded with people doing these things for the first time and exclaiming that its the absolute best way ever, even though they have no idea. (Not at all saying that's the case here, but....)

Why cut a corner off when you can drill a hole

The plug on the end would have required too large of a hole to thread it through so I am either clever or lazy or a nice mixture of both. ;-)
