Fuel pumps like to push fuel not pull probably why the last one went bad. I would look into moving the pump as close as possible to the tank and the rest can be under the hood

Awesome. Thanks for the advice. Honestly it was already installed when I purchased so I figured it would be good there. Haven't had issues yet but I might move

It may be fine there too when i built my fuel system building my truck all my research said fuel pump as close to the tank. Also I heard a lot of people like running a return style regulator to keep fuel from boiling but I dont think that would be an issue for what seems to be more of a cruiser then any kind of racing.

This is exactly the video I’ve been needing to see, well explained in every way I have the exact same set up as you have in this video but I wasn’t sure if I had routed correctly and you totally just nailed it. Thanks man

That's great and so glad it helped. So I started a full rebuild series on this car. I'm only on video 1 but planning to do a lot. Here is link to first video kzitem.info/news/bejne/tnd8mpx3oGSddYY

I HIGHLY recommend you change that clear glass fuel filter. That very filter caused an engine fire in my 76 Ranchero. This is a common issue with these filters.

I should clarify, leaking is a common issue. They are just bad quality. You are literally better off with a plastic filter.

Wow thanks for update. I'm currently going to be doing a fuel rebuild and restore of car but planned to drive a few more times before pulling motor. Good heads up. Never heard that one

Believe those types of external fuel pumps are to be mounted close and lower than fuel tank to work properly and reliably.

Right, lower then the fuel tank is recommended. You get a good gravity feed and is easier on the pump, is what i hear.

I installed a Holley 12-801-1 on my 54 Nash Ambassador with a crate 350. After 2 years of dinking around with other cheap electrics. I got tired of pumps that lost their prime anytime when it ingested an air bubble. (like a sweeping turn with less than a quarter tank) With the Holley 12-801-1 I decided to test whether it's self-priming or not. Holley tech service didn't actually know this. (they could only quote their own website) I took the new pump and connected a fuel hose, shoved it down the filler tube, put power on the pump. Within one second it shot gas halfway across the driveway. So, YES, it's self-priming!

Hi Pete! Love the Austin Healey!!! Nice clean Install on all components. I just ordered from Holley, a fuel regulator 12-840 with a gauge port in the unit 4-9psi. I got a Mr. gasket pressure gauge, however, I might return it for a better upgrade. I didn't know Mr Gasket stuff was so bad. Thanks for the video. I would install a inline fuse for the pump, as it is so easy. Cheers from Motown.

Interesting using loctite Ive run mine 460ci 487hp GTO for a year and never had a problem with the gauge, but I installed a Evil Energy regulator and it lasted 3 months. Took me 2 hours figuring out wtf reason I wasnt getting fuel in my carbs. So Im going to install my gauge with loctite good idea.

Just a question- every time i see someone put a fuel pump in they put it under the hood? Yeah it may work but it needs to be under car close to the tank
@royallyconfused21

how did this hold up for you. I know a lot of people say to mount the pump near the fuel tank opposed to the engine bay for flow as well as the pumps overheating causing vapor lock

I'm pretty sure the holley mighty mite is a type of pump that pulls gas from the tank so it doesn't need to be under the tank to work unlike the Holley 12-801-1. But I wouldn't really want it in the engine bay getting heat soaked id mount it on the frame somewhere

I have had 2 fuel pumps. I keep loosing power. What's going on with it. It's a 60 psi inline summit pump with a Holley regulator. It is a 04 Toyota matrix dirt track 4 cyl racecar so cant use the stock fuel pump or tank

Did you end up keeping the fuel regulator? If not, which one you end up using? Thanks. BTW, most electric fuel pumps are "pushers" and not "pullers". Longer life if the unit is lower to tank level and closer. FYI Best regards.

So I ended up swapping out the fuel pump for a carter and I can’t remember what fuel regulator I have now but very similar to this one. I more so set the fuel pump to be correct.

Do you have any problems with the fuel pump in the engine bay? Typically those have to be near the engine

I haven't had any issues but haven't driven it a lot. I've heard it's supposed to be closer to fuel tank but it was set up like this by previous owner and he had no issues. I'm rebuilding this car now and may move

Hi Aaron, You can get the holley 12-840 with a 1/8 npt port right in it. After I dial in the 6psi, Probably pull and put the port plug back in.

I work on cars every single day too LOL and I have that Mr gasket fuel pressure regulator brand new in the box I was going to use on my 350 swap in my S10 Blazer I also have an evil energy adjustable fuel pressure regulator that is for high pressure I couldn't use it I filled my engine up with gasoline and ruined my Royal purple oil and k&n oil filter had to replace all that again now I have the Holly return style pressure regulator a lot of people don't realize that Holly you had is not the only one yours has an n and two outs mine has an in and out and a r for return look closely they do have a return style Holly also lots of people think they only make one kind of holly adjustable fuel pressure regulator but that's not accurate

@@petescarport My Holley (Blue) pump came with a canister style filter, low pressure for a carb setup. Mounted lower and in front of stainless tank and away from exhaust heat. So far, so good.

This is all wrong.. the fuel pump should be mounted closest to the gas tank.. add lower than the bottom of it. Or as long.. and that' regular sucks..
