If you lock that small motor in the straight ahead position, you will still be able to steer with the main motor. It will act like a rudder and point you where you want to go.

Not much about the "installing" and too much about the engine. No advice on where the prop should be relevant to the boat bottom. No use of a (recommended) stainless steel spreader plate to ease the stress on the boat hull.

good video ! You can’t go wrong with any Yamaha Outboard in my opinion , on the Chesapeake Bay almost all the Marine Police boats use Yamahas and Honda outboards and we call them the Gray ghosts because at night they can sneak up on your vessel silently under the cover of darkness ! one evening cruise my best freind and i were passengers on some else’s boat out for dinner and cocktails with the ladies and we didn’t realize there was Marine Police next to us untill he hit his blue lights he apparently was idling behind a boat in the marina the restaraunt we ate in and had night vision as he saw the waitress bringing us food and drinks and wanted to do a sobriety test on the driver of our boat ! like i said we were only guests on this boat as it was another member of our marina that volunteered to drive all of us to dinner that evening nothing was written up as he did a fast safety check on the boat and determined one bulb was out onthe navigationlights we didn’t know about

Just got a mount delivered. Tried to get the motor mount to move but it won't budge. Do you need weight on the motor mount to get this to move?

It helps, as the spring is a strong one. Some of them, you got to pull up a little to release them.

I have the same thing going on with my 2004 Lowe FM Sea Nymph. I have a 8 hp Honda mounted directly to the transom but it is 100 lbs and with my Evinrude 75 Etec at 370 lbs it puts me over my transom limit of 380 by quite a bit. I bought a 3.3 Mercury 2 stroke from a local pawn shop that only weighs 28 pounds but it needs a mount to raise and lower it and I got one just like this one in your video. The Mercury is a short shaft so getting the water pickup down in the water far enough is of primary concern. Due to the design tilting the motor for transport while mounted on the boat will not work out due to a weak retaining pin and bracket.the motor needs to remain vertical for transport or be removed. Getting the anti cavitation plate at the correct height, in line with the bottom of the hull, requires the ability to lower it further down than by just mounting it directly like the Honda is. My master plan is to fix the kicker to run straight and use the big motor as a rudder to steer with. I will only use the kicker for trolling, unless the big motor quits on me, which will mean a long trip back to home port. In your video I wish you had paid more attention to the kicker bracket and how to mount it properly instead of what a great deal you got on the motor. The most important thing to keep in mind when mounting a kicker is the water pump needs to be at the level of the water surface in order to insure it pumps cooling water, if not you will kill your motor in short order due to lack of water flow.As far as the limit of hp on these brackets do check the specs but I think you will be at the upper limit at 9.9 hp..Otherwise good information and the only video I have found that gives me information I need using this mounting bracket.Thanks for taking the time to make and post it. :)

Could i use this on my 10hp main motor at full throttle? Or are these brackets for trolling speeds only
@OldCarAlley

It depends on the bracket you buy. The one I installed is for trolling only, but we did run the engine faster with no problem, but it's only a 6 horse.

i m putting a kicker motor on my 20 ft. grady white with same mounting brk.u used wondering if that mount would support 9.9 motor .im sure i could get specs. also thinking about big flat washers on inside of transom or making flat backing plates

I think it will hold up to a 10 horse motor. I use big washers when I can, otherwise I make a bar to go between bolts.

I have a 15 hp 4 stroke on a bracket very similar to this rated for 20 hp 2 stroke. I'm pushing it but no issues yet. I trailer it too..

We call in an auxiliary motor or a trolling motor in Australia. We use them for 2 reasons. Trolling, to save fuel and as a back up to get you hone if your man engine gives you trouble.

Just got to look and ask around. My dad found out about this motor from a neighbor of his, and went to checkout out, and bought it.

You didn't even show how to install the mount, waste of my time, all you did was show off your kicker motor and the fuel tank...
