Where do these get their electricity from? are they plugged in somewhere?
@RichManPoorTech
2 жыл бұрын
Yes they get there electricity from the National grid, At 2:25 I show assembling the U.K. plug/power supply and at about 2:35 I plugged it in to turn the lights on

Hello, very nice and informative video 👏 ! I got a question.. are the leds powerful enough for cooking preparation ? It seems pretty nice on the video (I guess the better profile would be cold white)
@RichManPoorTech

The hue lights in my kitchen are powerful enough for food prep, when set to a white, ie soft white daylight white etc. but when set to colour i would still have a main light on. When i cook at night i usually have my main lights on as well, but if its dusk or im making Tea or coffee at night then i just have the hue on, it depends on how bright you want the room, my mum has some under counter strip led from amazon and they wouldn't be bright enough, but i would say that the hue are bright enough in my opinion. hope this helps

Did you run both of the led cables off the one socket and not use the plug ? As I want my cables fully hidden i(ie power cable)and that would answer all my problems!
@RichManPoorTech

I have them plugged into 1 socket outlet, although i only show 3 sections (joins) as shown in the video, they have been extended to 4 sections around the kitchen.

Where did you end up plugging it in? Socket? Does it need any special power suppyl?

Hi, the hue lights come with a3 pin UK plug / transformer (& 2 pin EU plug) here in the uk, i plugged mine into the far left socket shown at 2:52 in the video (not the one i was testing it in) you could use a transformer for led down-lighters if you match the spec but this isn't supplied the kit

How did you fish through the wall without hitting any studs?
@RichManPoorTech
2 жыл бұрын
That was a external wall so it is dot and dab, but if it is stud i cut a hole in the plaster board and use a right angle drill to cut through the stud to fish a cable through the hole, following IEEE guidance

Can it be controlled with switch?
@RichManPoorTech
2 жыл бұрын
it can be controlled by a hue switch but not the colour aspect, for that you need a voice assistant or a hue app on a smart phone or tablet

Did you think about using an aluminium profile to house them and diffuse the LED dots?
@RichManPoorTech
4 жыл бұрын
shapes2000 No I didn’t as the wall units are below eye level, and the spread of light from the Philips hue is wide balanced and even, the tripod was set lower for the video to show off the lights but in reality you don’t see them. If they were visible then I would have looked into different mounting options

@@shapes2000 i'm sure you will love them, i have them fitted in my dinning room, kitchen and bedroom and they really help to change the mood of the room, in fact i am posting a video shortly on portable sanitiser where they are showing next to my mirror in my dinning room

I thought you should use thin nails ,,, but then you damage the power supply?
@RichManPoorTech

@@robertkaleta6418 hi i think the tape on the lights is 3m, so they seam to stick well, I have not had any problems with them coming unstuck since i fitted them, and feel that this is one of the best things i did to my kitchen, i usually leave them on white but sometimes change for a bit of mood lighting . the ones in my dinning room are always on colours for mood lighting

Will these turn on and off with an outlet controlled by a light switch or do you have to use Siri, Alexa, etc…
@RichManPoorTech
3 жыл бұрын
You can use your voice through Alexa or your phone (hue app) they are plucked into a socket outlet so the switch there or you could add a hue switch, or wire through a separate transformer not supplied to a light switch if you wanted to, but I just use Alexa and plugged into a socket outlet

@@RichManPoorTech Do we need the hue bridge or will this work with just alexa/siri/google assistant?
@RichManPoorTech
3 жыл бұрын
@@shaungreen5109 i believe if your using apple home kit or google assistant YOU NEED THE BRIDGE, however if your using alexa it depends on which alexa/echo you have, echo mini echo dot including 4th gen echo dot echo gen 1 2 and 3 you need a bridge, if you have echo plus 1st and 2nd gen, or a full size echo 4th gen, and echo shows then these have built in zigbee controller and you don't need a bridge to work as shown in the video, you only need one on your network, for example you could be talking into a echo dot in the kitchen, to control lights in you kitchen, but your 4th gen echo could be in the lounge, I am not using a bridge in that video, however a bridge will add more functionally to you hue lights, hope this helps you
@shaungreen5109

@@RichManPoorTech Yes mate this makes complete sense, however i ask this as i am aware that some of these devices have zigbee inside and others do not. With me now being all apple i would of liked to of used the homekit bit i know this is not an option so others would have to be used (echo ect) I will ideally have an all philips setup in the near future so having a bridge will make sense then. However if i can completely bypass it now then i would prefer it if i could use something that would not limit its features, is that at all possible? The main issue for me is having something plugged in were i have limited space that is just a hub that does nothing however having the likes of an echo, could be a better move.
@RichManPoorTech

@@shaungreen5109 if you have apple home kit then i would suggest a bridge, Im a apple fan but ive never tride to connect my apple tv's to home kit etc, all my smart speakers are alexa/echo, the echo can now connect to apple music which is a plus
