I really appreciate a skilled craftsman that takes time out to show us mere mortals how a job is done.

I've always thought that wood is a non-homogeneous material and because of that mounting points should be staggered rather than be located in one horizontal line.

Why you put the red bricks at the top of wall?!
@gdr88
2 жыл бұрын
do you not need a wall plate on the block side with the red bricks at the top? I don't know anything about building so not trying to criticise, just asking...
@darrenthebuilder

No you don’t need one for this. The rafters will be bricked around as well.

It is easy to be an arm chair critic but should you not at least draw the hanger centre line top to bottom with a square or spirit level, some look a tad squint but it can be tricky to tell as the camera lens distorts things a bit.

A ratchet with a deep socket would have saved your arm when you were bolting up the wall plate great work as usual

Can those joist brackets be used for sloping flat roofs?
@darrenthebuilder
2 жыл бұрын
Hi they are only for flat I think. I’m not sure what you mean by sloping flat. All flat roofs do have a slight slope but the bottom of the joists which sits in the bracket should be flat. You add the slope on top of the rafter.

Needs to be twist nails in the hangers, you can buy/hire a nailgun that fires these. If you fit a timber wall plate on top of the masonry with wall straps it will spread the load and stop the joists rotting or getting stressed at the contact point.
@darrenthebuilder

The nails are designed for the joist hangers www.metrofixings.co.uk/category/cna-ring-shank-nails/5154 Couldn’t put a wall plate on inner leaf as I was building a parapet wall and do not want to lay block on top on the wood plate.

Of course you can use ring shank nails. This is what us recommended by the manufacture of the hoist hangers. Here is a link www.strongtie.co.uk/en-UK/products/connector-nail-stainless-cna-s
