Thank you always Leah for your sage advice. To this point I’m not enamored with laser sighting, it’s almost invisible outside in daylight. An old fashioned pencil and a miter square or a clamp is quite efficient. Sometimes the old way just works. Maybe in time they’ll improve these things so they are more efficient.

Always LOVE an honest review. It's not exactly bad, not exactly a miracle... BUT it's cool. I noticed how that "tuning head" not only changed the angle of the laser, but swung it out and around, completely changing the position as well as the direction. That might be the key to finding the BEST possible spot to attach it, so it doesn't get vibrated out of position and even gives a desired "width" line... Many of those markers change width as you move the laser closer or further from the "target surface"... something I noticed with a laser level I bought a few years ago... ;o)

The idea of an add-on laser (for a radial arm or chop saw) is interesting. Make it a lot easier to line up the cut. But in addition to vibration, I was wondering about the thickness of the projected line. Thanks for the review - and the ideas.

I think it would matter most about the saw's housing/chassis and where exactly you attached it... Some (like my Wally-world Special) are just so rattly, you wouldn't get a consistent line at this point if you tried... Others, like the old worm-drive, are stable enough you don't really need a laser to get it. I DO occasionally line up one edge of the blade and use an extra-fine tip sharpie for a really nice, crisp "register marking"... That way, I can always keep the bulk of the blade in the waste (mark with an X to keep sure on layout) and I get along just fine with an ordinary pencil on the layouts... no need for all the faff of gouging with blades and marking or cutting gauges... etc... Depending on how that twisting head "to tune" it exactly works, though... It might be a solid replacement for the sharpie, provided I can attach it close enough for a fine enough line... Vibrations can be greatly diminished with a wafer of "shock absorbing" material between the base of the laser and the saw when you bolt/screw it down solidly... unless of course, the chassis is too loose or flimsy where you attach... It would take some trial and error and experimentation, though... Start with the glue-on pad, and fiddle around until you find as rigid an attachment point as you can... Then I'd be either into neoprene or possibly balsa for the wafer, depending on magnitude of vibration or "jitter"... Remember, it's not worth anything out in bright sunlight, of course, too... BUT in a shop, on certain models, it could be a help. ;o)

Not a circular saw but pro tip for anyone looking at the Dewalt miter saws that have the light system that projects the shadow of the blade... Maybe if the laser pointer was bolted on attached to the saw then maybe it won't vibrate. But honestly the best way I found to make a long rip cut like that is with a metal clamping fence. I have a 52" fence that clamps to the plywood sheet, I got mine at Harbor Freight long ago, but others sell similar products. I need to adjust the fence to allow for the saw offset... for example my saw has a 1.5" offset, so I mark where I want the cut, then I mark the 1.5" offset to put my fence on it. Now at that point a laser marker would be useful add-on as a good sanity check to make sure you're on your line before you cut.

I think it's more suited for use on something fixed, but is situational, like a mitre saw that DOESN'T have a laser line on it. I COULD use a pen or a pencil, but let's say I don't have one on me and that piece is required ASAP, but I don't have time to trek back into the house, grab a pen/pencil, rush back out to my garage workshop, make my mark, double-check (my grandfather used to be a carpenter who went by the credo of "measure twice, cut once"), and make my cut. In that time, I could've saved myself A LOT of time by just double-checking my laser line and making my cut. Or if I need to shave off A LITTLE material, but I can't eyeball it or make a clear mark.

Yeah..I've found,, every single time lasers are not good on running machinery,,,cheap plastic housings and what not,,for 5" and under good skill saws have the measurements on the table of the saw itself,,so just line up the kurf of the blade on the appropriate side of the line and use the guide,,always make sure you are on the proper side of the material you are cutting..the kurf waste is 1,,8th of an inch so it can destroy your piece if extreme accuracy is essential...Thanx again Leah👍..love your honesty,, clearly you are a trades woman to the core👌
