This is a work in progress and I decided to share my thoughts and evolving method.
This is the BeeSmart Design Insulated Inner Cover. I've decided to defeat the intrusion of wind and weather into the space above the insulation.
This video shows what I'm thinking and where I'm headed with this mod.
I plan to recycle old 10 frame medium supers and cut them down to save space and materials (less expansion foam).
I will have this modification on several hives and others will remain with the BeeSmart Insulated Inner Cover "as is".
Spring will tell the story.
Expansion foam is very versatile and can fill every tiny crack and then be trimmed.
I used a foam cutter in this video, but you can use sharp knives just as easily.
Lesson learned, allow the great stuff expansion foam to completely cure for several days before doing any final shaping.
This should be beneficial in summer or winter, as the rapid round feeder would be shielded from outside temperature fluctuations which can be pretty extreme here in the northeast. We often get mornings in the 20's F, only to see the 50s or 60s later in the same day.
Expansion foam bonds the super to the insulated inner cover extremely well and eliminated airflow.
Watch for my upcoming video showing foraging temperature ranges.

THERE HAVE BEEN QUESTIONS about this foam and safety, the cured foam is described here:
"9. Once cured, GREAT STUFF™ foam forms a non-hazardous solid
and is nontoxic if ingested by pets. However, it could block the
intestines. If signs of distress are exhibited, seek medical or
veterinary care."
Foam SAFETY - most of the concern is centered around the foam before being cured, here is more reading for those who are curious: www.greatstuff.dupont.com/con...

Rapid Round Feeder, I don't have a dependable source for it, so I leave you to search it out on your own. Look for solid materials and a domed cover.

If you don't have old supers laying around, this is the shallow super that I would recommend for this project. My use of the medium super results in a waste of materials. www.betterbee.com/wooden-hive...
As an amazon associate I may earn from qualifying purchases. You'll notice some links with "amzn" in them, those may result in earnings for me, but don't alter your cost at all.
One of my viewers said he wanted a sweatshirt, but they aren't large enough for him. So, I've added this pull-over cotton blend hoodie that goes all the way up to 4XL. I hope that does it, and thank you for supporting my channel! freds-fine-products.creator-s...
