it's not "beating" the i7, it's only beating it in single threaded performance. and only by several points. it'll perform slightly better than the current gen i5, don't let intel's marketing fool you.

It does clock for clock in single threaded, but in the real world people overclock, so no way 4c/4t is going to be better than 4c/8t in multi-threaded applications or gaming.

Argf Price, man, price. Intel still isn't even close to matching AMD's price to performance, and that may not change with coffee lake, as AMD will have updated chips by then too, hopefully with better clockspeeds.

@alan have we all lost the plot? it's only beating it a by a few points in single threaded performance. the current gen i7 has the same single threaded perf as an i5, it's only beating the i5 in games due to hyperthreading, granting higher multi-threaded perf. the new i3 doesn't even come close to i7 in multi-threaded perf, it'll perform slightly better than the current gen i5 only. The title of this video is pure intel shill advertising

I am going to be very very happy. Just because you have an i7 doesn't mean new customers should settle for less to keep you guys happy. WTF is your logic people, technology should always develop. The i7 u have might have been the best in it's day. Are you all so accustomed to intel's slow incremental improvements that you are sighing a big leap?. What if i3 is priced at $200 & is better than last gen i5?. It's great for people who are buying now.

+Brijesh It depends on what i7 OP has, if OP has a skylake or kaby lake i7 than it would make sense for them to be annoyed (especially kaby lake) as it means that had they known about this jump, they could have waited and saved money or gotten more power. And 2 years (or less than 1 year if Kaby lake) is pretty bad if the new CPU's make the old ones obsolete in such a short time span, causing them not to be able to run new software as efficiently (though doubtful new software would change that fast anyway) If OP has something older than skylake though, than it doesn't make sense to complain, as technology should be expected to move along significantly after 3 years (not that it HAS, in the cpu market for ages)

Thank you AMD, for creating movement in the up till now completely stale CPU market. i3 overtaking an older i7 should have happened like a decade ago. Intel have never for years improved their price to performance ratios they've kept the price and performance of cores super closely tied together except in the high end where the prices go way up and performance goes way nowhere. I wonder if this i3 also costs as much as an i7.

Am I the only one that isn't a fanboy? I buy whatever product I think objectively will give me the best experience for the bes value. AMD currently has some CPUs that perform awesome in multithreaded workloads but a little less so in single threaded, not to mention you can barely overclock them, especially the highest end ones as they are basically running at their max speed. However they're great CPUs overall for an awesome price. I was completely sold on Ryzen however if these benchmarks are true I may hold off. I need a processor that has good single threaded performance (gaming) but also good multithreaded performance (music production). This is what is good about not being a fanboy- it encourages competition. If everyone was an AMD fanboy then no one would buy Intel and AMD wouldn't have to rush to make better products than their competitor, and vice versa. I pay far more attention to the product I am buying than the name on the label. Neither AMD nor Intel are lacking in either single or multi threaded performance, and both companies have some great value CPUs out and on the way. When researching what processor (or anything for that matter) you should buy, do it scientifically. Don't go in with a preconceived notion that one product is better and then find statistics to support that. That is unscientific. Look at accurate statistics, and prices, and determine for yourself what product you want to buy. Don't go around and trying to defend your "side" or whatever as a processor is literally just a piece of silicon and it is not worth going all guns a blazing about. Don't just be a mindless consumer and basically a pawn of a company. Think for yourselves once in a while.

Intel lists an 8350U with 4 cores and 8 threads as an i5, why would they take the 8350 number, switch it to a K skew then drop it to i3? Guess my question is how certain are we the 8350k will be marketed as an i3 and not be like Ryzen where the lowest R5 has fewer cores then the other R5's? it would seam weird to me personally to see the low power 8350U listed as an i5 then the Overclockable 8350k listed as an i3.

I turn off the hyper-threading on that i3/i5m/i7 stuff. HT to me is only useful for Server applications. Much better user response experience with that bogus feature off. i3 has a lot going for it price-to-performance ratio though. It never bugged me. Heck I like the raw Pentium series they put out it's like an i3 without the annoying HT implemented in it. I don't even know why so much gamers build with i series when the Pentium with a high end GFX card does the trick.
