Pro-Palestine demonstrators blocked and surrounded a bus Tuesday morning exiting the Christians United For Israel conference at National Harbor, Maryland to prevent the people inside from getting to the United States Capitol to lobby for more support for Israel.
The activists, which included an interfaith coalition of clergy, let other vehicles go by while specifically blockading the bus on both ends. A second bus from the conference was also stopped.
"G-D LOVES GAZA. END THE GENOCIDE" read a red banner they held.
Police arrived and declared the blockade of the busses to be an unlawful assembly.
"I order all of those involved to disperse immediately. If you do not disperse, you will be subjected to chemical agents and arrest."
The protesters stood but did not leave.
With the bus full of Capitol-bound Zionists still blocked on both end by pro-Palestine demonstrators, police arrived in tactical gear with an MRAP vehicle.
"We're not taking any action, that's just for safety," an officer told the activists as the heavier equipment arrived.
Police ultimately put themselves between the protesters and the bus exit, and escorted the Christians United for Israel attendees off the bus and onto a new one.
"Let Gaza live," sang the activists. "Arms embargo now!"
They ultimately dispersed once the bus was clear. Nobody was hurt or arrested.
Rabbi Abby Stein explained that the activists managed managed to block the CUFI activists from getting "to the Capitol to lobby the senate for even more bombs and more weapons for Israel to be dropped in Gaza."
"There's an interfaith coalition of Jews and Christians and Muslims and Hindus and everyone coming together opposing everything they stand for, opposing everything that they are doing."
