So most architects better stick to their field and focus on that and the interior Designers and interior architects focus on their specialty knowledge and competence. Hi there. I am a designer and professionally I currently have the luxury of working with some of the best architects in Denmark. Meanwhile I am renovating my own mid-century home and here I find it quite challenging to create a nice material pallette for the interior having a much more limited budget. Not unlike your video I have opted for white walls, keeping the original oak floors and I use black window and door frames for contrast. I too would like the other materials to bring color and texture to the home. However, I find that for instance a kitchen top in stone will be too expensive for the project. Any suggestions for budget friendly materials that does the trick?
@30by40
Жыл бұрын
I think many shy away from stone because they perceive it to be expensive, but the lifetime cost is actually amongst the lowest. One of the reasons I chose soapstone is because the working cost is low (you can shape it with hand tools). I generally stay away from manufactured materials like plastics (laminates, Corian, etc.), they just don't feel great. I like zinc but fabrication can be expensive. Have you considered something like butcher block?

This architect says this is the Architect's approach to interior design, and is somehwat implying that interior designers do not do exactly this. I am an interior designer by education and career, and have been doing this for for all of my 16+ years in this field. This is an example of an architect stepping into an interior designer's role. He is being an interior designer, and this is how interior designers work. It's not just Pinterest and copying images. Based on my experience working with architects for over 16 years, interior designers do all this at a higher level than most architects because of their skills, training and focus. Most importantly, architecture and interior design cannot be separated. A team should be working together to create a great holistic design, architecture influencing interiors, and interiors influencing the architecture. Architects need interior designers and vice versa.
@30by40
Жыл бұрын
I'm not implying that at all, sorry you've read into it like that. I actually think we're saying the same thing, esp. with respect to applying a singular, holistic vision as I stated in the video. If you follow my channel on YT I think you'll see the respect I have for all design + construction professionals - interior designers included! Where I currently practice (a very remote part of Maine), we don't have interiors pros willing to take on the smaller scale projects I work on. I'm simply sharing my process and I encourage all pros to do the same! These videos take tons of time and care to create and it's all done in the spirit of helping others.
@rebeccadurante109
Жыл бұрын
@@30by40 Thanks for the reply. I totally think we're on the same page, your approach is great, same way I'd approach it. Your visuals are beautiful. Not everyone is capable or good at thinking about architecture and design at the same time, thus the need for a team and multiple minds. And those who are good at both should charge more. 😆 I just think the way some of it is worded may make others interpret that the architect's approach is different and more complex than interior designers who spend their time Pinning things. Thanks for the discourse!

Hi Eric. Thank you for your videos and all the material you put together… This one specifically inspires me when I have to work on an interior presentation. I am trying to start a materials library, there is so much out there.. I wonder if you have a list of manufacturers that you “curated” and recommend having samples from, perhaps representative of fundamental materials,that every architect should have for inspiration. I saw the texteira soap stone ad a few others on the video, it would be lovely to have a list.. I feel that with all the technology and necessity to produce work quickly, I am disconnected from the actual materiality and sourcing.. apologies for the long message.Many thanks.
