This is the first time I've watched a conversation on italki and seeing you roll with it even though you're not completely fluent makes me so much more confident in being able to try it out myself, thanks for the video

I love how you redirected a question you didn't understand by asking for her to say it in a different manner. I'm stealing that! Thank you! +30 min CI :). And I really like Perla's manner. I've marked her as a favorite teacher so when I'm ready to spread my wings, I could speak with her. I'm currently at a bit over 400 hours of CI.

Nice Luke!

Luke great job. I've seen 1 or 2 other past vidoes and you're definitely Improving so much and its encouraging to see! I'm only at 300 hours of CI, but I also spent about a year doing the more traditional method and I've spent a good amount of time practicing speaking, so my level is hard to quantify. My only advice is to maybe find an italki tutor who corrects you. I've had many italki teachers and the one I have now is my favorite for that reason. She's the only teacher I've had who corrects me when I say something incorrectly (misgender a word or mispronounce something). Obviously you most definitely have a better feel for vocabulary with so much more CI, but just thought I'd throw that out there. I find myself learning so much during my conversation practice because I'm getting minor corrections here and there as well.

Great work Luke! If you were to record the time from this lesson towards your comprehensible input time, do you record the whole 29mins or just part of it?
@Lukelearnsspanish

I personally do not record my own hours super strictly these days, however I think counting this as CI would be fine.

The part that you didn’t understand her, when she said “has estado aprendiendo” thats the verb ‘haber’. Its one of the most important verbs in Spanish, but its also used differently to the others. You should look it up.

@@LukelearnsspanishHonestly luke I hate grammar as much as you do but hear me out lol Understanding this for me was one of the biggest things that improved my spanish. It takes two minutes to understand it, just take a mental note of how it works you can just let the rest come naturally through input and your speaking/listening skills will improve a ton! It's actually really simple, just read over this for a few mins and i promise you your spanish will improve: Example: he hablado con la policía! He (i have) + hablado (spoken) con la policia! Just use the right "have": I have = he (Like in the example) You have = has He/She/It has = ha We have = hemos They have = han Then just slap 'ido' on the end of the ir/er verbs, and 'ado' on the end of the ar verbs. I have spoken = he hablado (The verb is 'hablar'. Take off 'ar' and add 'ado') Examples: I have ate = he comido you have lived = has vivido i have been = he estado (this is a big/useful one) he estado aprendiendo español todos los días i have been learning spanish every day You can also use it as a question as well. ¿has estado en la tienda? (have you been to the shop?) has hablado con la policía? (have you spoke to the police?) The example from your video: ¿cómo has estado aprendiendo español? how have you been learning spanish? There some irregulars aswell but as long as you take a mental note of how it works, you'll get them through input if you don't want to learn them (takes an hour tops). The strucure is called the Spanish Present Perfect, i hope this helps.

@@ajvesp Thanks so much for that comment, that really does help. Although I am not doing much grammer study I am definitely not against knowing a bit about the concepts, because I think it can make content more understandable and can accelerate learning.

@@Lukelearnsspanish CI is a great way to get introduced to the language, but it will only take you so far imo. If you want to become a really capable speaker, you need to understand the grammar. It doesn’t have to be the chore that everyone makes it out to be, if you get the right teacher, they can make it fun!
@ajvesp

@@Lukelearnsspanish No problem at all! Exactly my thoughts. I think grammar drills or trying to really memorise the grammar can be counter productive, but familiarising yourself slightly with some of the more common rules can help you absorb the rest through input. Good luck on your journey luke, and keep the videos coming i watch every single one!
