Save yourself the time and get a reamer bit to clean out that jandy union and call it a day. Chipping and peeling is for the birds

Bro….just use the new union, your time is your money. Never make a joint where the socket isn’t fully penetrated by the spigot/pipe. In fact, when putting 2 1/2” on a valve or anything where the spigot wont fully penetrate, cutting the fitting to allow it is preferred to a joint not seated to bottom depth in the socket. 41 years, here.

thanks for the tip! I only do around 2-3 plumbing jobs a month so I actually look for opportunities to use these specialty tools more often just so I can get more practice with them. This was my second time using this this fitting remover so I was looking for an opportunity to use it. That makes total sense about the pipe not fully penetrating the fitting though.

@@rynophiliac hey what’s that blue wand you have attached to the glue stick

Im not sure if it has a name but I get them from my local wholesale pool distributor. Its basically just a bigger handle for the glue brush and it doesn't thread into the can it just pushes into the can to seal it. Its just more convenient to use this rather than the handle/brush that comes with the glue can.@@mikedaflame8483

@@inyourpoolbusiness please if you can find out let me know because the stupid metal sticks always break off. And I’m constantly having to buy new glue.

I rarely use the tool, it is a bit tricky to use correctly and takes some experience with it to use it properly. I had to modify mine to cut more material off by bending the cutting blade in more. Sometimes I remove the key and shorten the shaft so I can use it in tighter areas. Having said all that I am glad I have it in my tool kit, Much better to pull this tool out then replumb a large PVC section. If you are in the business of repair work its a must have. For guys that do service every day with the occasional repair it's definitely not needed. The maker of the tool is a one man operation like myself, it took a very long time for him to ship me the tool after I ordered it because he hand makes them himself, took Iike 4 weeks so just a heads up on that. www.pipeparana.com/
