If you're like me and have breakfast and then lunch as dinner, breaking your fast with toast and butter isn't a bad thing, because it helps the body absorb vitamins and nutrients, especially from supplements. Most important is to watch your calories, if you're over your needs then you'll gain, and if you're under then you'll lose weight. Carbs opens up those cells, and the fat transports the fat-soluble nutrients where they need to go.

I like that fact that he highlights the importance of weight training when fasting regularly. I notice a difference in hormones and body composition with just 1 very short weight training session, unfortunately I don't do it weekly or regularly but I will start soon. Fasting is great and for someone like me as it helps so much because of the lack of inflammation due to my high blood glucose after certain carbs and meals (pre-diabetic). If you're fasting 3 times a week, than after fasting just don't have carbs in your first meal. You can still have carbs with fat in the week, just not after fasting and it will help. This is how I took his video haha but he probably doesn't eat any carbs!

I've been watching you and Dr. Berg for years. I think I've lowered my calorie amount per day due to intermittent fasting. The numbers add up to about 1400 or maybe 1500 a day. I'm 250lbs and not hungry at all. I've been very strict with Keto for over 4 years now. I came from 305lbs down to present weight. I'm trying to lean out and get to the next step being over 50 yrs. old. In the morning I spin Mon, Tues, Thur, and Fri, hitting each muscle group on those days with weights after work. Wed is off. Saturday is HITT and Sunday a long walk with the wife. How do I drive my metabolism back up to gain or maintain my muscle and lean out?

Absolutely great resources and tips. I have found this whole diet incredibly interesting and informative. I am currently on my day 1 fast. I have tried numerous other diets and just have not been able to make them work. Eventually it comes down to deciding if I am worth the effort. If my friends, family, and loved ones are worth the effort. Because it isn't just about wanting to lose weight. It is also about a healthier tomorrow. To that end, I now need to ask for some advice. I have not done any weight lifting since high school and that has been a long time ago. Where should I start? I know I could go to a gym. But what can I do at home? Thanks in advance!

Hopefully this doesn’t get lost in the comments. I’ve heard what you said before, not to combine carbs with fats. I have confusion about what I can eat with carbs. For instance, should I eat a handful of power greens (spinach, kale, red chard), broccoli, and 4 eggs? Does it matter what kind of carbs/fats you combine? Thanks for all your videos and info!

I would appreciate the answer to this line of questioning as well. Would a fat/protein meal be strictly avocados, oils, nuts and meat as an example? And then a Carb/protein meal would be rice, chicken, and vegetables? Or can vegetable type carbs be included in the Fat/protein meal as well?

Look at those net carbs very closely, you could eat about a whole kilogram of keto friendly veggies before hitting 20 net carbs but only 75 grams of rice. And if you surpass 20 carbs while eating broccoli it's not a bad thing per se, Dr Berg recommends to don't bother with veggie carbs at all.

Doooood! This makes so much sense! Thank you. I've been IF for almost 3 weeks (keto on and off for too long to mention) and couldn't make sense of why I lost 12lbs (water) the first 2 weeks and then gained a lb and feel bloated. I'm clean keto, but I know I'm not eating enough! Under 900 calories a day. Not on purpose, just not hungry. I did an extended 43 hour fast and nothing happened. So I quickly increased my calories. I alternate between 18:6 and 20:4, but 20:4 seems to be my sweet spot. I've also been walking 4 miles every morning. So the stall wasn't making sense. I had no idea to separate my carbs and fats!!! Keto combines them. Great information!!!

Tom, I recently started doing a 16/8 eating routine. Not keto but low carb, decent protein and good fats. After watching this it’s making me think my first meal of the day may be improper. Been having 2 whole eggs, 2 whites, cheese, small bowl of old fashioned oats soaked in almond milk overnight with a small amount of fruit in the oatmeal. Should I be breaking the fast with pure protein and about 45 mins later have this breakfast?

Another great video and I love all the science you use to back up everything you share. 2 questions (if you don't mind). How long from when we break our fast, say with a fat bomb, can we consume the carbs ? For example, I eat a big keto leafy green salad as my main meal and I just started eating a fat bomb to break my fast. When can I dive into the salad ? (10 mins later, 15 mins later, etc). Also, does the fat in my dressing and the carbs in my (low carb) leafy green salad count as combining carbs and fats? (FYI- I also have no gallbladder, just watched that video, so I'll break my salad down into two meals now). Great stuff ! This is my salad base: Homemade mayo based dressing using olive oil 5-6 cups leafy greens (spinach, endive, swiss chard mix) 2 TBSP Parsley 1 TBSP Nutritional Yeast 1 TSP Chia Seeds 1 TBSP Pumpkin Seeds 1 TBSP Sunflower Seeds 1 TBSP Sesame Seeds 1 TBSP Watermelon Seeds 1 TSP Flax seeds 1/4 Cup Pecans 1 TBSP sprouted bean sprouts 8 Olives 1/2 Cup homemade fermented red cabbage sauerkraut My protein for the day, either boiled eggs, chicken breast, etc.
@DepDawg
5 жыл бұрын
Bernie Lake-David i personally wait 2 hours before having carbs. I eat fish or meat and eggs, then later have 115g of 2% yogurt with protein powder, chia, and cacao nibs. If you have the salad with fatty dressing afterwards, you are not breaking your fast with it, so your body will not respond with that insulin surge that Thomas describes. I also mix carbs and fats afterward in terms of veggies with butter. Two hours is something I came up with for me. It took trial and error. If I ate it sooner, I felt hungry soon after, and sleepy, which made me think my insulin was spiking. After 2 hours I just feel energised and strong from that second meal. You can test it out for yourself, maybe starting at the half hour. Best of health to you!

kimkimkimkimmie' From everything I’ve read, if one eats a lot of carbs they will be hungry for more carbs every few hours. I lost 60 pounds or so a couple years back by eating higher amounts of protein i.e. tuna, smoked oysters and salmon. I stopped eating processed junk like bread, chips, sodas etc.. The more natural the food the better it is for us. Recently I’ve started eating a more vegetarian type of ‘diet’ while still enjoying some eggs and cheese and cottage cheese. I’m researching eating Living Foods also. Also doing I.F. and OMAD ‘one meal a day along with breathing exercises ‘WHM’ and mediation, walking and cold water therapy.

Hi, my question is: can I change the time of fasting every other day? my work schedule is not the same every day, which means my lunch breaks are not always at the same time. my eating window can be 12..-20.00 one day and 11.00- 19.00 the other. Is that ok?
@Jpanda16
4 жыл бұрын
Based on what I've seen from his videos what matters most is your non feeding window times. There's different benefits for 8, 12, 16, 24 hours of not eating. So basically yes if you fast after noon one day and fast after 3pm the next that should be fine. As long as your getting in that 12-16 hours of fasting, it doesn't matter what time of day it is or how long your previous window was. And he also says you should learn to listen to your body. Don't eat just because its "lunch time" or because you're bored. But also drink water and eat if you're truly hungry.
