Good video. My teacher, who learnt from a student of Wongs, says pretty much the same things, easier said than done though especially under pressure.

A good cogent description and a challenging beginning. As with a lot of things,the good stuff is often counterintuitive. Thank you.

Everyone in the "circle" talk about internal power & how to stand But Not many say to use the glutes & lat muscles to start. it took me 2 plus years of searching & just doing with "relaxation" before I found more and more people talking about those muscles & to apply them the way Adam suggest. thank you

Interesting. This was the part of the Vision's arsenal that they have in the comics, but not in the movies. He can put his fist and forearm through a body and then materialize it. Pretty sure that would qualify as 'internal power.' Wonder why they left it out of the movie. The description of what the punch feels like is really really cool. TY for clip.

If you mean the 4th move, think of it as a failed punch that gets rolled into bong

If you have been training wing chun the correct way, does the internal punch develop naturally?.

If you train Wing Chun the way I teach it will develop naturally. Unfortunately, 90% of teachers don’t train this way though.

How do stop the feedback from punches going in your shoulder?
@sifuadamwilliss

Keep your scapula tucked under more, drive your punch with your elbow and relax your hand

Could you please explain to me how you keep your scapula tucked?
@sifuadamwilliss

Think of the should like a wheel. When the shoulder comes forward the scapula generally pops out. Roll the shoulder back and down and the scapula generally tucks under. How to keep it that way? There’s no secrets, just obsess over it until you get it. Keeping the hands light also helps. 🤙

Sifu Adam...would the same concept/principal apply to wing chun kicks as well?
@sifuadamwilliss

Yes. Generally, the concepts of punching are the same for kicking.

Hi Sifu Willis I have been told this before. I’m not there yet with my skills. I have two questions if I can 1. in your lineage when punching does the arm remain bent to be able to hit with that internal energy? 2. Wong Sheung Leung lineage is that external Wing Chun rather than internal? Many thanks

1 - The scapula must remain tucked. The elbow must face down (crease up) and never locked out in application. 2 - There are elements of both internal and external in what I’ve seen in the WSL line.

Thanks. I’m working on the scapula. When under pressure I forget about it. Maybe more time and effort being conscious of it at all times will come. I want improvements in all areas but keeping the scapula tucked is a primary focus for me. Whether doing wing chun or press ups or pull ups, gymnastic ring dips the scapula is something I think about and position all the time

@@SUF-py4ix That’s good. Doing that will make it a habit and eventually you’ll be able to maintain it under pressure. 👍
