For International Dawn Chorus Day, our Co-Chief Scientist, Penelope Whitehorn, headed out on a walk near her home to record the birdsong on Bunloit Estate.
To build up a better understanding of the birds on Bunloit, in addition to an annual breeding birds survey, we deployed audio sensors to detect bird calls and carried out bird ringing. Recent deployments of audio sensors detected 53 bird species from more than 50,000 calls, including 9 species that are Red List species of conservation concern. One of our main aims is to share the findings of our science-driven approach far and wide, to encourage other people and projects to learn from our experience and to inspire them to replicate our model.
Every penny invested will help plant trees, restore biodiversity, sequester carbon and develop the science and data we need to support the recovery of nature on a global scale. With every investment we receive, we can be that much more optimistic about the future of nature and our planet, in the hands of so many who care.
