AV: Hello everyone! The Interpreting Services department, including our scheduling team, would like to take a moment to celebrate Deaf Awareness Week. In recognition of the World Federation of the Deaf’s focus on advocacy for language access, each of us would like to share a few words about its importance. Lena, if you’d like to start?
LL: Language access means cultural mediation. Considering the unique cultures, traditions, and beliefs of those we work with is so important.
AV: Charley?
CT: Language access means access to public information. It’s important that we know what’s going on in the world around us.
AV: Brooke?
BB: Language access is important for all of our native sign languages. For example, BASL, LSM, gesturing, among many others.
AV: Samantha?
SC: Language access is important to ensure partnership and collaboration.
AV: We recognize the importance of language access for our Deaf Community as we celebrate this week together. Thank you!
