As a Wrexham fan who is a regular at the games, I would also say learn the songs and get involved. Go along to support the team not to just stand and watch in silence, you would enjoy it a whole lot more. A lot of tourists turning up at the Racecourse recently, we need everyone to make some noise for one last push to get Wrexham over the line for automatic promotion

I am incredibly impressed that you flew thousands of miles for a cold wet day watching a football game! I remember when I was about 8 or 9 being a regular at Luton Town (they were second division, and Malcolm McDonald was playing for them at the time, which shows how long ago it was). This was pre all seater stadia and I remember standing at the half way mark watching the games and shouting at the players (I think that my mum would have been shocked to know the chants I sang along to). What seems very funny to me is that your experience doesn't seem that different to my own back then. 50 years later I live in Southern Spain and watch Malaga (seemingly inexorably) slide down the divisions - and two very small local teams near the bottom of the Spanish pyramid (El Palo and Velez Malaga) who look like they're going to be promoted. But the basic experience is the same. One thing that made me curious - your comment on the beer prices in the ground. You implied that they were cheaper then the US equivalents - looking at them my personal reaction was that they were about what I'd think the norm for a pub in Wales, so a bit cheaper than I'd expect but nowhere near as expensive as in a regular London pub. Are beers in American sports stadia a rip-off?
@redcardlucha3035
Жыл бұрын
I love football! It was going to take more than bad weather to stop me. To answer your question, the same size of beer would cost me around 8 or 9 pound. And that’s on the fair side, it can go up to 10 or 12 pound, for the exact same size beer. Stadium beer and food in the US is way over priced.
@malcolmrose3361
Жыл бұрын
@@redcardlucha3035 Here in Spain, you can't buy beer inside stadia at all. So obviously everybody pre-loads nearby at bars and kiosks! 500ml (just over a pint) about €2.50, and very nice tapas - there used to be a great bar just opposite the stadium main entrance but sadly it's been replaced by a gambling shop 🥲

I go to many games in Mexico too, Spain is on my list, I’ve heard that many fans in Spain like to eat pumpkin seeds and bring their own sandwiches into the stadiums. Is that true? Sounds like an amazing experience

@@redcardlucha3035 Malaga might be a good option for you - from June there are direct flights from Newark to the city (or you can fly to Madrid and take an AVE fast train to Malaga - which will probably be faster, cheaper and cleaner than your UK trip to Wrexham), and it's certainly cheaper when you arrive than the UK for just about everything. If you time things well it might be possible to catch a Madrid match and Malaga in the same trip. Malaga are currently languishing near the bottom of the Segunda Division so tickets aren't hard to get at the moment. The ground capacity is about 30,000 so not super large (there's talk of bringing it up to meet minimum World Cup stadium criteria) and it is an easy twenty minute walk from the city centre. Games usually start at 18.30 on a Sunday evening so it's very easy to go to a game and then have dinner afterwards. The other two teams I sometimes watch are both lower league squads - Velez Malaga (about 25 miles from Malaga city) and El Palo (which is a suburb of Malaga with great bars and beach side restaurants which a lot of foreign visitors never see as they only go the city centre) - they're both doing well in their respective divisions (the Spanish "pyramid" is complicated) - they both have 2,000 seat grounds and are semi-pro. At the moment it can be more difficult to get tickets for their games than for Malaga! In many respects they feel much more like lower league games in the UK. Again, they play on Sundays but around noon (so the crowd ca have lunch after the match).

Hello, I have a question. I'm also from Texas heading to London in March. My plan is to catch Wrexham in March. I signed up for the international membership, which I see they only have 75 tickets set aside for each match. We're you and your buddy able to sit with each other? I noticed you can only purchase 1 ticket per membership. Also, just in case we don't get tickets out of the 75 that are available, do you have any recommendations for a backup plan? I don't see tickets available on 3rd party sights such as Stubhub, Seatgeek, etc. Any other tips, and I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

I'm looking at making essentially the exact same trip (TX to Wrexham). Did you buy plane tix after getting game tickets or just plan the trip and cross your fingers?
@redcardlucha3035
Жыл бұрын
So I bought the plane ticket first, austin had cheap direct flights to London and wanted to take advantage. I was an international member with the club, but that doesn’t guarantee you tickets, basically gives you an upper hand to grab some. My logic was, if I don’t get a ticket I’m going to enjoy the city, see the turf and the racecourse, and try to catch other matches of any level. As you’ll see in future vids. (Spoiler alert) my advice, take the plunge, get the tickets and you’ll enjoy yourself. The folks in Wrexham are truly great.
