I have to be a bit bias and say this was BY FAR my most FAVORITE video, and I wished I could give several thumbs up!!! Having grown up 15 min outside of Zurich, this video brought back many memories from my childhood and left me navigating through the nostalgic maze from the past. Starting with Bellevue, which was daily tram stop when going to my high school or "Gymnasium" as we called it in German, to the Seepromenade "Lake Promenade"- the area along the lake where you saw all those sailboats and so - where we used to sit down on our lunch breaks and enjoy a sandwich with a wonderful view. Sometimes in early summer, right before school lets out for the summer breaks, we used to bring our swimsuits and jump off the bridge into the lake for a refreshing summer swim. Now a quick FYI, transportation tickets in Switzerland are valid for all PUBLIC transportation (Trams, Buses, Trains, Boats) within the zones for which they were purchased. If time permits, you can enjoy any one of these transportation methods on your next trip. I would recommend taking the boat from Zurich to Rapperswil (2hr scenic ride) and visiting the old town in the town at the opposite end of the lake, then take the train S7 from Rapperswil back to Zurich (45Min ride). Other than that, if you enjoy hiking (which I'm sure you do), I would also recommend visiting Pfannenstiel, and then catching the train back from Meilen to Zurich (15Min). If you ever get a winter trip to Zurich and you happen to enjoy skiing, take the train to Hoch Ybrig or Flumserberg for a quick day trip (Not necessarily the best skiing Switzerland has to offer, but by far the closest and the better than what I've seen elsewhere). There are many more suggestions I can come up with, but I believe this is enough for now. While I've recently starting routing all my trips to Europe through LHR (easier for those of us flying from DFW), I'd add PHL on my list for a layover on to ZRH. I've really enjoyed this video... keep it up

Hi, Julia. My husband is also half-Swiss. We are from another of your favorite places, Salt Lake City, but right now we are living in Germany. One great thing to do in Zurich is to hike the Uetliberg. It's a quick hike (some people do it on their lunch break), but it gives you an amazing view of the city and lake and it's right there in the city. If you like art, you can check out the Marc Chagall windows in the Fraumünster. Hope you get to visit again soon!

If you can stay for more than a couple days, I highly recommend that you get a 3-4 day Swiss Pass from SBB. It covers all transport - trains, boats, trams, even some gondolas. The general rule is if people live there, it's covered, so the gondola to Flumserberg is covered, but continuing up to Maschgenkamm is half price (and worth the view). But with your pass you can go to Luzern, or St Moritz, Zermatt, or anywhere. Enjoy!

Highly recommend going up to the UETLIBERG in Zurich. You can take the train from Zurich up to the top of the UETLIBERG Mountain and go on a beautiful hike with amazing views of the Swiss Alps and all of Zurich. There are also amazing lookout points & restaurants up on the mountain. It’s also close to the hotels in downtown Zurich so it’s a great way to be in nature, get in a great hike and be near Zurich and safe to do when on a layover.

Switzerland is fantastic, but it IS also expensive! Recommeneded: a day trip to Lucerne (Luzern in German). It's about a one-hour train ride from Zurich. A lovely town for walking, esp. along the shore of scenic Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee). Also great cogwheel-train climbs to mountains Rigi or Pilatus in the Swiss Alps.

As a Swiss, Zurich is one of my favorit Cities! The souvenir shop was a classic tourist rip off😉Did you walk down the Bahnhofstrasse? One of the most expensive shopping streets I believe in the world. Tip: There is the Dolderbahn you could take up to the Dolder Grand Hotel or the Zurich Zoo is really nice too. Take the ship for a roundtrip, another nice way to see the surroundings.

I'm sure someone probably mentioned this already, but a great day trip from Zürich is to go to Interlaken and Grindelwald. Both are beautiful and in the Swiss Alps. My sons and I were in Zürich in June in 2023 and loved that day trip. We also took a day trip the next day to Vaduz Liechtenstein. The Interlaken and Grindelwald trip was with a tour, but the trip to Liechtenstein was on our own. Super easy. Happy travels!

I had the privilege of spending two or three days in Zurich with my family when I was ten;( I’m 64 now). I can’t remember the name of the hotel but it was very old with a running wooden elevator and the thickest, fluffiest goose down comforters I’ve ever slept under! We took a boat down the Rhine river and cable car ride up to a famous mountain. Our trip was in June and there was still snow in the ground on the cable car ride. White Swiss chocolate is still one of my favorite things to eat;( my mouth was watering when I saw your stash)! Stay safe in the sky’s and thank you for all you do to serve others!

Hey Julia, next time in ZRH, you might want to try out these places, a bit more authentic than lousy santa lucia chain restaurants: - Con Gusto at Schaffhauserplatz (best pizza in the city) - Malabar Indian Restaurant in Oerlikon - Dapur Indonesian Vegan in Oerlikon - Gerolds Garten neat to your crew hotel is awesome (its really cool) and you might find some real zurich style bags at Freitag, the brand we all are very proud of here - Soul Köfte in Langstrasse has the only decent middle eastern street food To get out of the city and have a decent view, check out the Uetliberg, its a 20‘ train ride and a short hike up the hill. Near to your crew hotel, you might walk there easily, you will find the Gemeinschaftszentrum Wipkingen, its something rrrrreal swiss-zurich, an awesome park! And from there you could walk up all the way to Hauptbahnhof (main station) where you‘ve already been before. And hey, there is that river, true, but further up by the swans, thats our beloved LAKE 😂 Anyways, you did quite well (the hotel guy was a bit nasty to send you to bellevue, next time, let me know, i can get you better advice. (I am just a griendly swiss mom with a heart for tourists, as I had experienced sooo many nice canadians when I lived there so I try to return the good vibes)

I was just in Switzerland from Sept 8-19 including the three last days in Zurich. Enjoyed the video. On Saturday the opera house had a public stage in the square you filmed, and singers were singing famous arias and other ways to get people to buy tickets. The river you were next to is Lake Zurich I believe. The national museum was open when I visited, and it was a snore. You already know the great museums of Europe. There are few hidden gems. I enjoy your perky introductions to other travel.

Been following you from your first videos and suddenly there you are in my home city, Zurich! Glad you had a good time. For a day trip, I do suggest Luzern( or Lucerne). 1 hour by train and you are in a beautiful city smack right in front of the Alps, you might even get a chance to go up mount pilatus. In the old town, try Zeughaus Keller. A bit touristy but nice to get a Swiss feel.

I lived in Zurich for my entire childhood into my teenage years.(I live in Vancouver now) I love my home country so much and I miss it even more. But there are so many things you can do outside of Zurich. You can get so far with trains (it might be costly but worth it). There is the Zurich Zoo which is the best in Switzerland. There are also so many castles you can look at and even go into them. Also if you are trying to save money for lunch always go to Coop or Migros. Considering they are only a grocery store, they have such good sandwiches and depending on location hot lunches as well. Another thing you should try next time is a drink called Rivella (they have different colours always go for the red one, it's the best). I am not a big soda drinker but that stuff just hits differently.

I'm so happy for you that your transfer to Philly is bringing you on these terrific international adventures. I first went to Switzerland in 1974 when I was a college student living and studying in Paris, and travelling on weekends by train to nearby countries. Switzerland was a beautiful country then - and still is! In the ensuing years, I have now visited 47 countries (many of them more than a few times), with 3 more bucket-list ones about to be added in the very near future. I only wish that all of these countries had actually stamped my passports (I'm on my 4th one now).😊

Hi, Julia. There are some interesting details in your video which you probably missed. Just one example: at 11:08 where you walk up the steps to a place called "Lindenhof" there is a copy of a roman tombstone in the wall to your left dating back to about 200 AD. The original is kept at the National Museum shown at 14:46. This tombstone was found on Lindenhof in the year 1747. It was erected by his father for a toddler named Lucius Aelius Urbicus who died at the age of 1 year 5 months and 5 days. The father was responsible for the roman toll station TURIC(ensis) and this is the first known mention of TURICUM which was the latin name for Zurich. Old roman baths which can be visited are not far away.

Next time, try to catch the red train from the underground level of Zurich Main Railway Station to the Uetliberg from where you have a terrific view over all of Zurich, and a good part of Eastern Switzerland, provided the weather and view is as good as in your video. The Uetliberg is the hill chain to your right when you look South, i.e. direction of lake Zurich. There are of course also restaurants on top, plus a high observation tower. Best regards from someone who was born in Zurich.....
