I came across Neil when a friends boyfriend played The needle and the damage done, like someone living under a rock I said that it was beautiful and did he write it? When he finally stopped laughing at this 40 year old idiot,he introduced me to the genius that is Neil.I have not stopped listening since.Pure joy. Thanks man and keep doing. You are a boss.

Children are laughing in the sun I count the voices one by one But I'm not there to share the fun I'm out on the interstate I can hear a soft voice calling Calling me to bring my guitar home. I'm happy singing in a crowd The lights are bright, the music's loud I like to look in every face But out on the interstate I can hear a soft voice calling Calling me to bring my guitar home. Out in the dusty desert wind The fox goes looking for a friend She sees a light around the bend I'm out on the interstate I can hear a soft voice calling Calling me to bring my guitar home.

This is one of his very best songs, yet at the time he wrote it, it didn't seem to fit with other songs he had written, so he shelved it. Very few artists, except for Dylan, can afford to shelve such great music. Neil (and Bob) are not like other artists. Fortunately, we have it. As I said, it's on my Best Of Neil music.

Ahh Yes, This si the video, that I learned the song from, I was ignorrant to where it came from.. I can see now just how much you love this. I wish I knew how to do two tracks, like this. Youcould relax on the lead part, instead of trying to do the rhythem, and lead at the same time, like myself. plus you could over dub the vocals, to produce a haunting sound like this.. Very few songs really stick into my pea brain head, like this one does. My hats off to you man.. Jeff

This is my favorite performance of "Interstate". It was this song as well as others like, "Emperor of Wyoming", "Loner", and "Albuquerque", "String Quartet for Whisky Boot Hill", "On the Beach", and other songs of his that I listened to as an old kid in the late '60's and made me turn my eyes West, and that's the way it happened. It's helpful to refer to Neil Young's music through time, to help tie things together through certain diverse images that revisit the world periodically. Like iterations in the occurrence of certain problems; for example, the problem of the Many and the One. Like rest stops on the Interstate.

@BrokenChair88 To make such a rude comment, especially about a child, is ugly. You seem to know a lot about Neil Young, but this is just an expanse of recording history knowledge, wasted by not understanding the subtle, ethereal qualities that Neil brings to his songs. Maybe before you set another child up for very public ridicule you should listen to "Don't Be Denied", "Already One", or "I Am a Child". Work on being more pleasant and caring. You can do it. One day it will all click.
