I learned enough through various band classes to basically understand most of the words. But I watch videos like this and realize how little I actually know. This score is balls to the wall amazing and I can feel and point to vague reasons why. But this dude breaks it down like a damn expert. When studios make big movies and don’t put the money into making the scores work this well, I don’t know why they bother. I don’t know if the masses don’t care or what. Marvel is really bad about this aside from Silvestri’s movies and Black Panther. The music isn’t bad, but so much is forgettable.

The scene where Cooper re-docks with the Endurance is one of my favorite film scenes of all time. The entire fate of humanity boiled down to the efforts of a single man, refusing to yield against impossible odds, motivated by his love for his family. That’s the stuff of myth right there, and the music tells the story just as much as what’s happening visually. Such a fantastic movie.

I think Zimmer’s brilliance is his simplicity. He writes music to serve the narrative and to develop characters, not to demonstrate compositional skill or theory knowledge. I normally don't comment on videos, but now I just have to. What an essay, what a video. Interstellar is probably my favourite film ever, Hans Zimmer's score is a perfect fit for the complexity of Nolan's movie. This video-essay is definetly worthy of the movie... Lovely visuals, great voicework & of course a very in-depth, but clear analysis. You went deep enough into the musical ideas to understand the deeper connections in the score, without making it confusing or difficult to follow. You showed how a seemingly simple score has so many layers of meaning and how it served the movie's narrative. I have watched the movie probably more than 10 times already, yet with this analysis I feel like I have an even deeper understanding of the movie as a whole. I have been following you for a while, but this video has absolutely blown me away. Great work, keep it up! Looking forward to all your upcoming stuff.
