Yeah there's nothing wrong with balance. For example Altered State by Tesseract was brilliant that way Ashe's vocal range in contrast to the heavier instrumentals was amazing the album had a lot of depth it was definitely refreshing. Everyone's such a harsh critic about music if people had it their way everything musically would sound the same because everyone's stuck on one sound or a few albums. When it comes to the concept of metal people can be extremely whinny and overly judgmental.

I don't get it. What is it you guys listen to? This is heavy? Man, this is beautifully crafted, melodic and unique in more ways than one, but heavy? Its like putting a band in a place where they don't belong so that your brain can connect your reaction to the music they create. Personally who the hell would think they wanted it to be heavy? This is nothing like their instrumental EP/LP's. THAT was heavy as all hell. Just hear the gtr tone. Such a shift in direction and it worked just fine.This is prog in the sense that it is progressive. Not just in the music, but they themselves were progressive. They made changes, adapted to them and progressively became better for it. Other than that, this is Intervals.
@tomasbaptista2695
10 жыл бұрын
Greg Gaston You get to see them live :'( . You are lucky! Very much so! There's nothing wrong with labeling them heavy, but sometimes it raises an issue where people just love the band for the heavy parts. And if we would compare Intervals to other prog metal bands we would see they have some "heavy" stigma to it in common, but that's only a tiny bit of what makes this band awesome.

Well, in the end, why worry about such things when, even through all the adversity and lack of support from the masses, bands like Intervals still manage to create something so amazing without paying any attention to comments such as "We want this to be instrumental only!" whilst shifting their own direction completely and traveling to unknown grounds that no other band has ever covered before. That in itself is amazing simply for the fact that not only did they not care about not being the most popular band in the universe, but they also did not care about what the extremist opinions of their "fanbase" were. They just went with whatever they wanted to do, and that's how a consistently good album is born.

He actually does do 'that stuff' ('dirty' or harsh vocals, ie, screaming, etc) with other bands, just not with this one. The reason you are in the minority about the vocals is because almost all other bands that are in this sub-genre do use dirty vocals, or at minimum, a mix of the two, so most people listening to this stuff are just used to the noise. Harsh vocals give me a headache. For me it's not considered music unless it has clean vocals or none at all.

So you invested 7, 500, 000 minutes listening to this album using this video. This video is 21 months old, one month contains 43, 200 minutes (I don't give a shit about february). So, 43, 200 x 21 = 907, 200 and you wrote this comment 2 months ago when video was 19 months old. So you had even less time (820, 800 minutes) to listen to this album 150k times. It might be harder, but it's still perfectly possible to hear the instrumentalization that plays together with the vocals. I couldn't be happier with how this all sounds, personally. Great record

Lars Leion It's phenomenal, vocals aren't BAD in any way. I was just a little surprised they were clean. The music's quite heavy. I have yet to hear a band with this level of technical proficiency, combined with GOOD growl/scream vocals. 9 times out of freakin' 10, it's that TYPICAL, STUPID, synthesized, cookie-monster BULLSHIT which makes me sick. There are a couple of bands who have vocalists that do harsh vocals right. The cookie-monster syndrone has ruined many, many bands. It's tiring at this point.

Prenihility I have to agree with the cookie monster thing to be honest. I don't hate it but it does get old. Like Reflections and Born Of Osiris (even though Born Of Osiris HAVE kinda freshened their sound with the inhale screams and some grunty clean singing). I have yet to hear another band with the perfect balance of technical instrumentality combined with clean and screamed vocals like Periphery have. Perhaps I could throw ERRA in there too, they pull it off quite well to a lesser technical degree. Please by all means show me any bands that have managed pulled it off people!! I'd be super keen to look them up.

Prenihility Yeah, I can agree to that. I must say I didn't even think about the 'lack' of screaming/growling before I read the comments here though. Semesky's cleans are diverse enough for my taste I guess. I know he can though, check out him singing on Haunted Shores' song Terra Firma. It's awesome :)

ShadeImpulseXI There are some bands that do harsh vocals phenomenally well. But a LOT of Djent bands are using the generic, synthed, RIDICULOUS cookie-monster vocals you're VERY likely to hear in a Tech Death Metal band. It's extremely tiring... It... it's a music-killer, for sure. It's like they do all they can to be more extreme. When it only does more harm than good to the overall sound. This one band did fantastic harsh vocals... Found them a couple of days ago. And forgot their name. All i can remember is their beautiful album artork of a thorny, floating castle hovering in the sky as a child looks at it from a beach during a sun set. Ring any bells...? Great vocals... until the synthesized cookie-ness comes in :P.

This music is amazing, I'll definitely buy their albums when I have the money. I came for the instrumentals, but I was surprised to hear some awesome vocals too.

great metal singer, would like to hear what he does next now that intervals is back to instrumental. and simultaneously dying for the next album to come out because instrumental is where aaron marshall kills it.
