An absolute treasure of Canadian music. Such a great writer, player and singer! What really sets him apart is his ability to serve the song!! Not many players of his stature are as well aquainted with RESTRAINT. All throughout his career he has always served the song. Listen to any record he has ever done and youll hear a master!!! Secondly, within the confines of the tunes does he not still find a way to dazzle with his guitar prowess!? Again, a MASTER of his craft!!

Saw big wreck open for dream theater at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. I believed in 1998... I didn't know them but was blown away by this guy's voice and playing, the crowd was kind of dismissive but after the show I went and bought there album and have been a fan ever since!

Phenomenal!!! Such insight into one of the best players I've ever seen in a long long time. He's in the same league as JD Simo, Joe Bonamassa, & Scott Holiday, maybe even better. He's being just so humble here, but it's great to see. He'll never get a big head & for us, that's amazingly awesome. I'll come back to this for so many reasons. Insight, technique, & for a deeper understanding of playing from your gut & soul. This guy is like a multi-tool! You have a knife, a saw, a few screwdrivers, a ruler, a pair of scissors, & a bottle cap opener. Wow!

Myles Kennedy shined the like on Thornley for me. Thank God. I thought my appreciation for new music would die with Cornell... But Kotzen and Thornley are reawakening my love for singer songwriters.

Fantastic interview!!! Thank you so much for doing this. Ian is such a treasure. Now I just want a vocal channel to do interviews with Ian and Richie Kotzen about their vocal technique.

Another thing that is unique about him is his tonal shaping. Not too often do ya hear players and immediately know who they are! E.V.H. , VAI, SLASH, NUNO E.J. , SATRIANI, Brian May and maybe a half dozen others , have it. It isnt something you really teach or lesrn...more like it is what you ARE. If that makes any sense at all
