Yay! This is my friend being interviewed! I'm polyamorous too. There are MANY more poly people than one might think :)

This was mad cool and interesting to watch. Definitely was something that I've never heard spoken about before in depth. It's cool to see how others live their lives and their viewpoints on things. Great interview my friend.

This was such a good interview! You weren't judgemental, even though it's clear that you don't' share her personal viewpoints. Her perspective is definitely interesting to hear about. I know a few people who are poly, but we've never had an in-depth discussion on it

+Tamara Woods (PenPaperPad) I loved speaking with her! Yes, I am pretty sure I'm a monogamous person, but OF COURSE I'm going to let her speak her mind uninterrupted. I had never met a poly person before (that I knew of) and it was fascinating to hear about her life and explore her lifestyle for the brief time I had with her. There's no reason to be mean to someone who is different than you! haha XD

stiqula There's definitely people where you watch their interviews and you can feel their dislike, discomfort, and they basically diss their interviewee. I'm glad you're not like that. Side note: She seemed super sweet and really open.

+Tamara Woods (PenPaperPad) She was! And yeah, my goal is to really just talk to my interviewees like they're good friends of mine :) It's given the best results so far.

This was so intriguing and insightful! Random question: Was it just me or did the music in the background during the What are you afraid of? part sound like the dungeon music in Oblivion (or maybe Skyrim?)?

This was really interesting! And don't worry about the useless comments below...people label everything as "problematic" nowadays...do they even know what problematic means? I've once seen a girl call out another one for wearing self-tanner (which, in her opinion, was an appropriation of black culture...wut?!?) lmao I consider myself a feminist and yet I'm bothered by these extreme and pointless rants. Let's stop calling everything and everyone problematic and focus on the actual inequality instead. This bullshit is not helping anyone. Keep up with these videos, they're awesome!

Polyamory is not the same as polygamy. Please don't make this already widespread confusion even more confusing. As a polyamorous person myself this is way too frustrating. It's amazing that you do these interviews, but please make sure to write down the correct info, including the title. She's polyamorous, not polygamist. Polygamy implies things such as gender unequality, official recognition by law, marriage, and usually religious association. Polyamory is an actively ethical non monogamy much more recent than polygamy, based on strong feminist beliefs, to put it simple, and it's not recognized by law, which functions only with the consent of everyone involved and implies emotional processing to a level that you don't find in usual mononormative relationships.

+Rumpelstilzchenriel Correct, polyamory is not the same as polygamy. However, those two things are not mutually exclusive. At 12:44, Leslie clearly labels her relationship as "polygamy," because she IS married to her husbands (albeit, one is purely spiritual). She also takes the time to compare her relationship to "bigamy," which is illegal, and not what she is doing. I'm not trying to confuse anyone here, I'm simply giving Leslie a platform to speak on. If she considers herself a polygamist, I am going to respect that.

+stiqula She also considers herself polyamorous and wether she is in an ethical relationship or not, the definition she gave for "polygamy" ins't fully correct. I'm sure you understand that using a word that has so much meaning, history and culture behind it without taking that into account is very problematic, and while I appreciate you respect her self identity, I also cringe everytime these two things are confused, specially by an ethical non monogamous person. Marriage isn't only something spiritual - it's an institution, just as church is. And pretending you can drop half of the weight of a word behind and hoping that everyone understands what you really stand for is wishful thinking. Furthermore, with all that said, technically she can't be a polygamist, but that's another matter. The point I'm trying to make is that in choosing a title and having both words to use because she identifies with both, it would be more accurate and informative, as well as avoid misleadings, to choose "polyamorous" or "polyamorist". Either that or a disclaimer stating clearly that her identity and relationship don't represent what the words actually mean and it's her personal experience, otherwise this video has the opposite effect of informing.

+stiqula Also, polygamy is an umbrella term - which includes bigamy among others, and its more common connotation is polygyny, hence why the fact that she didn't correctly give the definition for polygamy is so problematic.

+Rumpelstilzchenriel Well I'm sorry you feel that way but I'm not changing it. You understand I don't have any idea who you are, but I got to know Leslie quiet well over the few days I spent with her. And, listening to her story, she was right there on the front lines of the LGBT community in its first fragile days, trying to define herself even though there was no definition yet. She regards language very highly because she LIVED through its evolution. She lived her life before all of this 3rd wave feminism started labeling everything PROBLEMATIC and RE-defining already established ideas with their own definitions, so excuse me for preferring her point of view over yours. I just feel like there's more weight to it. And this video certainly DOES inform people. Are you kidding me? Consider the average joe, scrolling through their sub box. They see "interview with a cis-gender, polyamorous, pansexual woman" and keep right on scrolling because they don't know what the hell that is. OR, they could see "interview with a polygamist" which is a far more widely known term. They click on it out of curiosity, perhaps novelty, and they come here to find Leslie: a real-life, living, breathing person with hopes, dreams, and a story. They see she's just a person trying to figure it out like everyone else, and they'll even walk away having learned a thing or two about pansexuality and polyamory. THAT sounds very informative to me. Much more so than your nitpicky bullshit that is only relevant to someone with a bachelors in woman's studies.
@eglathren
8 жыл бұрын
Wow, as much as you do have some valid points, you're dead wrong if you think that her point of view has more weight than thousand of years of human history. And fyi I don't have a bachelor in women's studies - I'm a biologist, also an activist, one of the very few poly activists in my country, and if to you the point of view of another poly person who does things differently from Leslie is "nitpicking", you're basically dismissing my very existence. If you think it's okay to speak like that about an issue you're not sufficiently informed about to a person that actually lives by being part of it and of the minority associated, when you're on the outside, then I strongly suggest you go re-think how you're facing LGBTQIA+ issues and your own entitlement in regards to groups you're not part of. So thank you very much, I'll unsubscribe.
