Thank you Alina for your courage to talk about something that almost all musicians have to struggle with, I believe.

Hello. Some points worth emphasizing with students: -- Beethoven said it's more important to get the emotion right than to get every note right. -- An audience responds to the emotive content of music, which is what makes the music meaningful for them. -- A performer's own emotional growth, which takes time, is more important than technical mastery. -- Performing for concert audiences is NOT the same as performing at a competition. -- A performer most likely knows the music better than the audience. Relax and play. -- Don't bother reading comments by music critics in the paper after a concert. It doesn't really help. -- Few conductors are good enough to be performers and tend to be overly critical = envious. -- Musical talent is work in progress. Patience and perseverance are critical in development. -- That'll be five cents ... ;=)

Exactly right! The love for the music as expressed by the musician is where the art occurs. The instrument players that hit the notes on the sheet exactly correct as to time, tempo, intensity, and tone, but put no emotion into the string of notes, as if a computer controlled automaton, will never enthrall an audience. Although they may score points with the Menuhin Competition judges.

Great message, but,, This should be applied not only to children with potential to become great musicians like Alinia, but to all children, everywhere, the world would be so much better if parents only encouraged their children to be the best they can become, whatever field of interests, instead they create children in their image, be it religion or whatever...parent often pass on their flaws, like hate, racism etc....thank you Alina for your insightful openness, Peace

The mix of Alice Miller and Gideon Cremer is somewhat confusing, but I still think she is absolutely right in all of her thoughts about "gifted children", beeing one helself.
