I'm a great fan of my 1600+ and roast 300 gms roughly once a week. I really do wish there was a beep at the 75% point as well as the display flashing, even just a very soft beep that you must be close by to hear. I appreciate that Joe sees the 75% warning as an important safety requirement but a soft beep would be appreciated. Normally at that point of the roast I now need three (3) eyes; one on the roasting beans, one on my timer, and one to see when the display starts flashing. A minor improvement, perhaps an option, would be to enable the light being permanently on whenever the roaster is plugged into the electrical outlet. The stiring vanes that keep the beans mixing really need to be a bit closer to the mesh of the barrel. With EVERY roast a couple or so beans get caught between the vanes and the mesh, get burnt, then have to manually and individually be dislodged. No big deal but it becomes annoying to have to do this after every roast just because the vanes don't touch the mesh. BTW, the 1600+ is truly a GREAT way to roast whole natural (skin still on) almonds. WOW, freshly home roasted almonds are so very good! A little trickier to roast in the 1600+, but worth the effort, are hazelnuts.

This is a question for Joe. Does the catalytic converter on the Behmor 1600 Plus reduce the emission of diacetyl generated during the roasting process?

Thanks for the demo! I just used mine for the first time last week. I was roasting in room our mud room. The temp may have been 40 something degrees. Twelve minutes in the roasting and the been were still green and with less than five minutes to end I got an error. Could room temperatures effect the machine? I was hoping to roast in my garage which I think is just as cold. Thanks again!

I've been using a Behmor 1600 for years now and I love it, but there is NO way to roast a full pound of beans even to 1st crack with the most aggressive (original) profile available. I have always been forced to start with 10 to 12 ounces of beans to get to 1st crack. I have just recently installed the new 1600 Plus control panel and I am hoping I'll be able get closer to a full pound of beans. *All of the above is a fairly minor quibble - I LOVE this roaster and I LOVE fresh roasted coffee!*

Apparently the internal sensor of this machine is affected by frequent dark roasting. It would be nice to see a video on how to clean the sensor.

I have the original unit. Never could roast more than a 1/2 lb. set at 1lb. Ruined some batches trying. Voltage had nothing to do with it. Maybe I need the plus control panel if I could figure out how to use it.

Hello Gunner Conway, Since you are roasting in a cooler area, you may find it beneficial to preheat your roaster. Pg 6 of the manual (www.seattlecoffeegear.com/assets/user-manuals/behmor/behmor-1600-plus-roaster-user-manual.pdf) explains how to preheat. What type of error message did you get? Trouble shooting on pg. 13 of the manual might help explain why you got that error. Please keep in mind that his model features an "Auto Safe/Unattended Switch" that automatically stops the roasting cycle 75% of the way through if you do not press the start button within the 30 second count down given. I hope this helps! ~ Sarah

It's a nice roaster that will last about 2 years. I am on my second one and I just died. It does the job, but I honestly think you should buy a more substantial roaster such as a Kaldi. Pay more, but pay once. It's a hobby for life.

I would like to know what has gone wrong, since the Behmor 1600 is not available in Denmark? Some say, there are problems with the CE certificate marking on the machine? There are a LOT of people interested in this roaster here in DK, but it is no where to buy it. Any idea when it will be availible for people in Scandinavia, we are waiting :)

Hello Anders Pedersen, I'm unsure if Behmor's new roaster initially released in Denmark, but it released in the United States for a very short time and with limited supply. Behmor overall is experiencing a supply issue and we have been out of stock on this new roaster for several months. Hopefully we'll receive more inventory soon and maybe your local dealers will receive some then as well. :-) ~Sarah

Thanks for the quick reply. Okay, if stores in the US have difficulty getting the Behmor home, I guess there is not much hope that it will get to Scandinavia any time soon. Thats a real shame, but why do Behmor have supply issues? There must have gone something very wrong, since they can´t deliver. A lot of people is asking that question here. Maybe you all would have an answer on what the problem at Behmor is? Thanks again

Anders Pedersen For the United States its two things: 1. Behmor has been experiencing a few manufacturing issues which should be cleared up shortly (if they haven't been resolved yet). 2. We are currently experiencing port issues in the United States as some of our major ports have not renewed their worker's contracts (this is a very condensed version what they are experiencing of course). Once both have been cleared, we should be good to go in the United States! :-) ~Sarah

Seattle Coffee Gear Thanks Sarah And thank you for making better quality and more professional videos now. The older videos with Kat in the background constantly laughing loudly and the poor camera control, was really not very pleasant to Watch (my opinion). Good info for people who is starting their coffee journey, keep them coming. :)

Yes, C for Crack can be accessed during a roast cycle while you're in manual or automatic mode. Page 8 of the manual explains all of the new settings: www.seattlecoffeegear.com/assets/user-manuals/behmor/behmor-1600-plus-roaster-user-manual.pdf. I hope this helps! :-) - Sarah

4:13 how did you get that going on? really? well, you press a button and it "tells" the circuit board, tho double the speed. how is that even a question?? (and, in theory, if the circuit board had 5 diff. speeds stored into its program, you could dial through those diff. speeds. ) obviously it has just 2 speeds.

I believe she was simply making a joke with that question, because she loves to keep things light. She was joking in terms of an actual hamster being inside (that he got a hamster to comply and run faster, which is what's driving the drum rotation) :) That's Gail...

That safety feature when you have to press the start button if 75% in the roast is so stupid! No beeping or anything just a flashing led screen. People who roast coffee are not idiots and are smart enough to be responsible for there own actions!!!

Guilty party here. We bought the Plus because we burned up our last 1600 while doing simultaneous woodworking and roasting, Did not notice that the roast had gone too far until we saw the thick plastic smoke from the wiring burning. Had to evacuate the shop for a day. We are glad to see the safety feature although we do agree a beep would be great.

After having this for a few days and wasting a few pounds of coffee, I can say that this is the most disappointing and frustrating product purchase in recent memory. This thing is not only complex and unclear compared to my previous roasters (with actually more programmability), but there are a couple of very frustrating and dangerous so-called "safety" features. I noticed when he started it in the video and talked about pressing C for crack, he skipped the part where the damn machine will simply shut down if you don't press a button at a very specific time during the roast. How remarkably stupid. Then he covers it later with a whole bunch of excuses, such as talking about manual control, but this annoyance happens in auto also. I lost one batch because a neighbor came over for a quick question, and I simply was not staring at the display although I was in safe sight of the machine. It doesn't beep or anything like that, just starts blinking the display. You can't even take a break to clean up or do other tasks, or you might miss it. The stupidity doesn't end there however, as the machine then refuses to start a new batch for about 15 minutes. The coffee is cool and destroyed by then. At least if I could restart a roast immediately, the stupid nanny control wouldn't be so onerous. Then trying manual mode, somehow it let me get the machine too hot for its liking, and it simply turned off completely. Meaning that the drum stopped, the fans stopped, and the COFFEE CAUGHT FIRE! The elements were still hot and concentrated that into the coffee nearby. This "safety" feature could actually burn your house down. Nice. Stupid. The manual is full of grammatical issues and seems to have been written by an engineer. I'm an engineer. I design and write software. Half the time I couldn't understand what the manual was saying because of double negatives, misplaced commas, or the like. It's still unclear how various programming steps work together. Also the manual has a distinct personality, which tells me one guy wrote it and nobody edited it. That's a terrible idea; someone besides an engineer should check it for readability and understanding. Oh, and it has a nonsense term in it that they never bother to define (a real tech writer would include a glossary). They refer to it and never define it. The manual repeatedly says to never use it outside, even in a garage! Seriously, it says that. But in the video they talk about how it might make too much smoke inside the house. Which one is it, and why? Explain the thing about not using it in the garage? That's where my most powerful (20 amp) outlets are, also. The place I bought it from doesn't do returns on non-defective items, so I'll just eBay this junk and cut my losses. Or maybe see if I can program an Arduino to control it instead of their dumb programming. If I have a bunch of rabid hyenas program it for me, the results couldn't be worse than this machine already is.

MAN. Why is this so hard to use.. An LCD touch panel would make this much more intuitive. You could have much more information, much more relevant information being displayed as opposed to figuring out what ABCD, or P1-P5 buttons and combinations of buttons does...this is just a very 1950s way of going about it.
