That sadness can be felt in that moment of potential 'release' from Lestat's clutches, proves just how complex a character he is, how genuine their bond feels despite the toxicity, and what a great job Anne RIce, along with Rolin and his fellow writers did in portraying the many complicated layers that thread these vividly flawed characters together! Daniel calling "BS" is a great climax, along with proof of said "BS" in the form of Armand, and Louis' unbelievable line at the end - this show is so damn good, it deserves all the love and praise! Lestat's monolgue on the balcony and the bittersweet 'dance before the feast' will never not make me emotional, and although (no doubt, like Lestat) I'm undeniably proud of Claudia for outsmarting her unhinged uncle, it hurt to see Louis actually put his blade to his maker/mentor/lover's throat! What can I say? I'm sold on this gory, gothic romance!! Everything about this show screams quality, but the music especially holds a dear place in my heart - it's just so beautiful! Anyway, appreciate all your thoughtful opinions and the emotional investment you've put into IWTV, and I'm genuinely looking forward SO MUCH to what you think of S2! Great reaction, as always! 🙏

Louis and Claudia are sitting separately because this is the segregated South. Non-whites had to sit in the rear of the streetcar. Lots of historic references here. The movie theater is where everyone was able to watch the newsreels in the early 20th century. People either listened to the news on the radio at home , or they would visit the local cinema to watch the news updates, especially crucial during WWII.

I'm so happy you're getting to season 2, I prefer it over this season (even though s1 is amazing). S2 is suited to your style of reactions because the show doesn't hold back now that we the audience (like Daniel) know that Louis is not the most reliable narrator. It's going to be so much more fun picking out the inconsistencies and untangling what the truth is. Even more satisfyingly, so many of our questions get answered (& also it leaves us with different questions lol)! As for your Lestat opinions, please don't feel that you have to keep explaining yourself to those who are making those comments. He is my favorite character, but I can admit that my reason is because I've read the books and know his character (and everyone else's) very well. It's not fair for anyone to expect you to completely sympathize with Lestat when the show clearly meant for you to hate him. A lot of people do change their opinions on Lestat post S2 and some don't which I think is fair also. I do look forward to seeing if your opinion changes at all. (ALSO this is an unpopular opinion and I might get skinned but if you read the Vampire Chronicles, I'd start with the second book The Vampire Lestat before Interview With the Vampire. I know it's sacrilegious or whatever but I think you'd enjoy it more that way and I'll stand by my opinion 😅)

According to the books, the sun does lose its power over very old and powerful vampires. Some even intentionally expose themselves to the sun to tan themselves so they can more easily walk among humans, because ancients after time start looking like marble statues. If you thought Lestat was a lot, wait until you get to know Armand. If you want a little peak at Armands controlling nature, note the floating book shelves and the fact that Louis can't fly but loves to read. Fortunately, you don't have to wait for two years for the second season like a lot of us did.

I find the way Louis attempts to spin Lestat's "murder" to Daniel both fascinating and also deeply telling about his character and his feelings for Lestat. He tries to paint it as this brutal act-"Love?" he scoffs, "I bled him like a pig and waited for the death rattle"-when the reality we're shown is the exact opposite. He can barely hold back his own sobs as he grabs his cane, he cradles Lestat tenderly against his chest as he slits his throat; thus ridding him of the blood Claudia had poisoned him with. We see him collapsed on the floor, desperately holding onto Lestat's limp body and wailing with grief and horror and agony. And afterwards he grants Lestat's wish by tucking him into the coffin and ensuring he'll end up somewhere he can regain his strength. Louis' participation in the "murder" was anything but brutal or violent, every aspect of it reflected the love he's never been able to let go of.

Loved watching your reaction to this episode!! Finally the payoff on the Rashid/Armand mystery. On the topic of the books: feel free to read them if you want, but imo it isn't really worth your time. AR did some really interesting and well done stuff, but the books also have a lot of messed up shit that the show tames and also fixes. The show characters are significantly different in a lot of ways - and are, imo, more compelling. The books can be fun and get a lot weirder over time, but also have a lot of baked in racism (some more subtle than others) and don't always handle the Sexual Assault/grooming well. Lestat also becomes a bit of a Mary Sue over time (imo). Basically if you do read them, read with a grain of salt, but they also have some beautiful prose and some really interesting contemplations on the nature of humanity. Can't wait for season 2!!

PLEASE don't watch the movie before you watch season 2, it'll spoil soooo many things! Cannot wait to see you react to s2, i have a feeling you'll enjoy it even more than s1 (and in my humble opinion they've outdone themselves). And once you're done with s2 watch the teaser for s3 (it's EVERYTHING)

Armand ♥ He's by far my favorite character in the VC, so the reveal is when the show really starts for me, so I always look forward to reactions to this episode and yours didn't disappoint. lol I've really been enjoying your insightful reactions and can't wait for season 2.
