It's mainly into hardcore punk kind of circles that veganism and wider topics relating to ethics and spirituality get discussed, so it's great to see someone like Tom being outspoken regarding these issues. I generally think of much metal as being quite conservative and hedonistic, but has been rapidly maturing and evolving thankfully, which as someone who has a wide taste in different music, particularly experimental and eclectic kinds, it's really great and exciting to see

Thank you for this special topic. Tom inspired so much people around the world with his amazing work/ music, I hope he can inspire many with his views on animal-rights too! I have a lot respect for this man and since I know that he is a vegan I respect him even more!!!

Well done, Gian! I will watch the remainder of the interview tonight and look forward to enjoying your other offerings. The respect and fondness you have for one another is obvious. I have followed Tom, such a gifted and innovative musician, since the early days when I was a young punk and metalhead. For the past few years, to now have him not only share my lifelong beliefs regarding animals and our beloved planet, but also to be such an outspoken, influential, and inspiring advocate for them, is borderline surreal and very exciting. The insights he offered were thoughtful and relevant, and I love hearing Tom's always-unique and introspective perspective on issues. I appreciate that he is prepared to use his celebrity to advance the anti-speciesist/vegan message and takes full responsibility for his actions/inactions, but he is ever-humble and diplomatic. You are both precious and decent humans. And thank you for giving me the courage to ask if he would be willing to sit down with me on my show, as well...I've been procrastinating about approaching him for a very long time! :) (Sue Spahr)

Tom has always been a huge inspiration, but I did not know he is vegan. Now that I know he's a fellow vegan who knows his stuff, he has ascended to hero level.

i'm vegan, but not activist, for i share the view, we've run out of time to change. i've been on the vagon for many years, long before Tom's conversion, but i'm glad he has had time to think & reflect at this juncture in his 'older' years. but we need a new album.... hint, hint....

I like a lot of Triptykon's music. I've listened to a lot of Fischer's music from Triptykon and Celtic Frost and watched a number of his interviews and have found it inspiring. I've been doing the opposite during the past several months, writing and recording a lot of music, and hope to have an album released some time later this year. I can relate to the difficulty of finding suitable musicians, and decided to do it all myself, then maybe look for musicians to play live with later when I've created enough quality material, to play either my songs or ones we collaborate on. I would like a bass player like Vanja or maybe Vanja herself if Fischer were to retire (longshot I know). I don't think i'd let her play my bass guitars though I can't afford new strings :P

I think the reason we keep living irresponsibly is because too many of us are so detached from the damage we cause. We spend so much time indoors and not enough time outside. Sure we hear about the damage, but we don't feel it, so we forget it. We forget how wonderful nature is but the drive to industrialize has been ever present in our culture.

Man, I struggle with this big time. I quit smoking and dope years ago but eating right has eluded me. At least I know I want to change!!!

The issue with veganism is that it requires intelligence and the ability to look beyond self importance. Sadly most people don't have these attributes, so they keep supporting the very thing that creates cruelty towards animals and by extension humans.

First intention, then enlightenment. That said, I hope Tom will eventually be able to evolve beyond his reductionist/reactionary Left/Right view of things. There is a third way out, although I doubt Tom would want to commit professional suicide by admitting to it here. Because there is a certain degree of ideological dissonance on display here, a certain bourgeois hubris being indulged in, that makes his chiding of Santura and Grossman sound a bit hollow when you consider that Tom's evidently still holding to the great shibboleth of the 20th century. Also, Geezer Butler is a piece of shit for what he did to Bill Ward.
