I meet Yannick Cadin, the developer behind Zombi, the very first Ubisoft game, released on Amstrad CPC in 1986.
Yannick tells us about his work at Ubisoft, the reasons that pushed Yves Guillemot and his brothers to create Ubisoft.
He also explains to us how he developed the game in assembler on the Amstrad, in 80 column mode and with floppy disks. He also tells us how he designed the icon-based interface which was critically acclaimed at the time, and his compression method, from which the game's ergonomics greatly benefited.
Finally, Yannick shares with us his publishing contract with Ubisoft, to help us better understand this era and the interactions between authors and publishers.
Thank you, Yannick Cadin, for all these answers and these anecdotes!
You can also directly play Zombi with no download on my website: arcade-des-monts.ca/run/amstr...
