After the end of the First World War, Poland finally regained its independence… which was almost immediately threatened by the Soviet Red Army. Following a series of battles, Poland managed to secure its independence, aided in part by the Renault FT light tanks acquired from France. The experiences gained during the conflicts with the Red Army in the 1920s taught the Poles the importance of having armored vehicles like tanks. As the Renault FT became obsolete, finding a replacement became a priority. A delegation was sent to the United Kingdom in search of a suitable and affordable tank design, which eventually led to the Polish Army acquiring 38 of Vickers-Armstrongs' newly developed 6-ton tanks in the early 1930s.
