I remember getting this game in junior high, I didn't have a lot of friends, overweight, and just kept to myself a lot. I had told my mom and sister that I wanted this game, and when I got back home they were away. Around 6pm is when they got back, looking tired and drained, but they gave me this game for my birthday. They told me it was the last one near us, and had to drive 2 hours away to pick it up. I remember playing all night, and this song just brings back that memory. I'm 18 soon to be 19, about to enter college. My mother passed away last year, but I'm glad she got me this. I miss you mom. Edit: thank you all for your kind words. For those saying its fake, I wish it was but sadly it isn't. My mother passed away August 22nd, 2020 3:30am after suffering tachycardia and 4 strokes. She was brain dead when she died. Also, she got me the 3ds version, and I will always cherish the memory my mother allowed me to have. Thank you all again, and live a long and happy life, and enjoy your loved ones as much as possible or you'll end up like me, regretting not cherishing my mother and what she was willing to do for me.

This comment will probably go unnoticed but I felt like sharing it with you anyway. I see so many comments in here talking rather somberly about missing their childhoods. While I understand that it's not always easy breezey to be an adult, I think being adult actually becomes more of a holistic and worthwhile experience when we actively keep our inner child alive and well. I don't think it's at all necessary to silence or abandon your inner childlike spirit in the slightest. Sleep a little longer, play videogames you've always loved and enjoyed, breathe deep and allow yourself the things you like and live more in the moment. See your childhood and your childlike spirit as something to protect, not to neglect. Not unlike what Link goes through in Ocarina of Time.

One of my earliest memories is playing Majora’s Mask at my Aunts house, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing or where I was going, but I loved every second of it, the sense of adventure. I had no prior nostalgia towards this game, and yet the experience was so profoundly positive. What most people don't realize is that video games can heal you. They represent a fantasy world where the player can feel important, strong, unyielding, accomplished. They allow us to escape from reality where things can be grim and ugly like a drug. They give you a sense of control and safety that no one can take from you. I remember being Link, just wanting to save the world and make everyone happy, just wanting to be him, a hero, ridding myself of my sadness with the help of a beautiful artistic heavenly world.

But when I hear this soundtrack and close my eyes everything is back to normal. I’m with my brother. My parents still love each other. Our oldest brother is still alive. I look back at my childhood and I feel like I’m looking at someone else’s memories. That’s how distant I feel from my home that I can never return to. @Anthony Zorrilla hahaha yeah, it feels like the devs went in-depth into very precise ideas for specific feelings and emotions for the music... in a way that feels like those feelings just directly connect with real-life memories, and powerful ones at that. Still the best game in the world... Ocarina of Time... play it one day, when you're ready to finish a big, long story... if you wish
@preacher.r1811
3 жыл бұрын
@Anthony Zorrilla very true... a lot of thought goes into some of the best games, more than money could really afford most times... I like LoZ games cause many songs have to be learned in-game to complete steps in quests, and the game usually has one of the characters teach some knowledge that relates to the song's feelings at the time of showing the song's name, and playing it with your controller buttons... it's a great idea to interact physically, mentally, and emotionally with your audience as a game dev, and the wisdom is intensely life bettering, especially as a younger person. Like, try this example, from in-game speech, learning the song required in the Fire Temple. “It is something that grows over time... a true friendship. A feeling in the heart that becomes even stronger over time. The passion of friendship will soon blossom into a righteous power and through it, you will know which way to go. This song is dedicated to the power of the heart... Listen to the Bolero of Fire.”

it was 1999 and school sucked, being a teenager sucked and I was given a N64 with ocarina of time. It brought me excitement and a fantastic adventure every evening I played this game after school. It was like reading a good book and wondering during the day how it would develop later when I picked it up again. We had a really big tv in the living room and I prefered to hook it up there instead of my smaller tv I had in my room. This game in so many ways saved me as a teenager of utterly boredom.

It feels like this was the last thing they did before releasing this game was put this tune on the startup menu. I get a feeling from this tune that someone was very aware of just how magnificent this game truly was and needed to add this very elegant punctuation mark to it. Of course the first time you play the game, you hear the music and it's nice but you don't realize just how amazing the game truly is yet so maybe you don't get caught up in it and you just want to play. Then once you've beaten it, seen the ending, and then saw the intro again and heard this music again, you get this feeling like "wow, the game was right all along, it knew it was this good." Not to mention, the basic melody also takes from the flute theme from the original Zelda (which is of course also the warp whistle theme from Mario 3) so it is rooted in the Zelda mythology as well.

When i was smaller, i remember watching my dad play video games. But ocarina of time-it was just different. I remember the excitement id feel when id hear the opening music. Id dash up the stairs to my father and watch him play. Timeskip-after he'd one day bought a nintendo switch for himself, i was around ten years old, it came with a mario game and a game that sounded nostalgic to me. "The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild". It was like my younger self all over again, watching him play zelda games on the nintendo. I decided to play breath of the wild myself. After that, i grew a large attachment to this series. Not even a year later, he left, which was definitely for the better. But now i have memories to hold onto. Ive bought skyward sword, played the original zelda game and the adventure of link a little, planning on investing in twilight princess, and ocarina of time. This soundtrack will always hold a special place in my heart. I am now 13, turning 14 this year and i will never forget how this series affected me. Thank you nintendo, for not only blessing me with this heart welling series, but making me experience one of the only times id feel like a child...Nintendo games. Having to act adult-like at such a young age is so hard. But there is sometimes a way to truly let out that childish side. To me, Nintendo did more than that. Thank you, once again.

Man, this brings an actual tear to me. I'm not the type to get moody from issues or conflict. But this hits home with the memories of playing late nights with my younger brother, having a few snacks and laying under the sheets to beat the game. Taking turns and when we beat it, it was a glorious night. Now, I sit alone skyping a friend to play an online game and do it before night falls for work in the morning. Nothing beats the classic and the memories they created. This, and Kakariko village gets me concious of my childhood.

100%, nothing comes close considering the tech available when it was released, newer games are going to look better and play better, obviously Many people say Breath of the Wild is the best Zelda ever made, I disagree. Botw is a great game but it is not the pinnacle of tech and graphics When Ocarina of Time was released it was the biggest, most immersive, complex game available on consoles, had the best gameplay and graphics back then, it was the The Last of Us 2 equivalent technically and graphically speaking, but in a Zelda game But only people that played it back then knows that, that’s why almost everyone that played it still have it as the all time GOTY

From there I would play it all the time; after school, on the weekends, and on my breaks from school. A few years later and I’m remembering all of the memories of playing this game, thinking back to all of the Zelda games I’ve played since. Riding Epona. Always against the clock, because when it's night, the skeleton monsters come out. Dodging the zombies in the ruins of Hyrule Castle. Sneaking past the guards. Hiding in bushes to talk to the princess. Moving around wooden crates to find a heart piece next to some cows. Hook shotting out of prison in the village with only women. This song. The intro screen. The sounds the game made when you moved the joy stick on the menu screen. Typing your name in to your new save. Going to fairy fountains. Zora's fucking domain. I'm remembering all of it. The fire tunic. The music to teleport to the fire temple. Sheik playing the harp and then disappearing on the bridge. Going into the whale's stomach. Having a crush on a fucking fish NPC princess in a fucking video game. 8 year old me to the now 18 year old me experiencing the same emotions. This game.

I'm decently young, not even old enough to drive as of now, or even old enough to be able to learn how, but listening to this song, looking at the comments, and just thinking, it becomes dreadfully obvious how much we lose, and how quickly. Listening to the song brings back memories of mom driving me over to my dad's, us turning on the N64, and just having fun. We got to listen to nice music, experience wonders, and just have great times together. Now that I'm a little older, my life has changed a ton: We don't really support games the most over at Dad's now, and even if we did, it would never be the same feeling as it used to be. There would be less wonder, and my personality overall would just make it a little more awkward. And over at my mom's, I have no one to play games with, aside from my step-sister (And even that has stopped happening as of recent). And all of this used to happen probably only 5 years ago at most. In that time, I've stopped talking with my family as much, stopped having as much or the same kind of fun. And I miss it, and the fact that I can't ever have it back weighs upon me heavily now. So, overall, the only thing I can say is make the most of your life. Appreciate every moment, cause there will come a time where you won't be able to have them again. And most importantly, if you are decently young, make sure to spend time with family: Try and have the most fun you can with them, cause there will come a time where that fun will be a lot less frequent. And to everyone in these comments who has lost someone, something, or maybe just misses the feeling of awe at games like this when we were young, remember that there are many other people in these comments just like you, and we all give you our support. This is the perfect wake up song or relax song. It reminds me of late spring/early summer: a soft breeze and warm sun kissing the skin, the sounds of birds singing, a bubbly brook in the distance, a fruity iced tea or lemonade, butter toast with fruit jam or butter, and a delightful book to read.

If you are reading this, congratulations! You made it through 2020! This past year has been literal hell, for everyone. We all lost something and have been changed and shaped forever by it. But it’s a new year. There’s hope now that some of those problems can be resolved. I wish you all luck, and I hope you stay safe and healthy in 2021!

How I miss playing this game. Staying up all night playing this. Beating the water temple was one of the best feeling because i will say it is hardest temple. I remember this game like the back of my hand. It really hurt me when I completed this game like this game gave me a feeling I have yet to feel again and I hope one day to play this again . And maybe walk hyrule again and soak it in . I missed tapping a on the owl scenes and link screaming from rolling or falling . Ugh they don’t make games like this anymore this is a masterpiece and I hope this game forever lives on

I didn’t play this game until wayyyyy later in my life (or frankly any of the Zelda games to be fair) as I was more into Assassins Creed and Bioshock as a kid, but the second I heard this play when loading it up for the first time I knew what people meant when saying how much of a masterpiece this game was. I didn’t even have to play it and I knew

I have not played this game. I did not grow up with this game. I was not even born when it was released. Nonetheless, this tune and this thumbnail oozes nostalgia so much that it feels as though it’s incredibly familiar.

I'm a young girl who, when I was even younger, used to watch my older brother play this game and so many other Zelda games like Majora's Mask. And, even though I never really 'grew up with this game' in the sense that I was young when it came out, I really just 'grew up with this game' in the context that I was always watching on the side, cheering my brother on when he was playing it. And, I'm still young and wasn't around during its point of release, so I don't think I have the right to say it's nostalgic, but it's so beautiful and has taught me so much. None of my friends understand because they're too caught up in school matters, and I just wish they would understand how amazing LOZ is. This intro is so wonderful. I was about 7 and I'd turn the N64 system on and watch as Link rode across Hyrule field on Epona while I waited for my brother to come. Thank you, Legend of Zelda. Really. I'll never forget you. I hope these games never die out.

Laura Most people I talk to play that popular game beginning with “F”. It doesn’t need to be said. No one that I know likes these games anymore. All I hear now is “F”, “F”, “F”. It’s so annoying. The people I know always say they know everything about video games. But it’s that one game in particular and it gets on my nerves.

not only is this a beautiful song, it's a nostalgic one. whenever i hear it i cant help but think back to when i was just a little kid. oh the things i wish i could tell my younger self. tho i know it isn't possible sometimes i like to think it is. i'd say "enjoy your simple life while you have it, it doesnt get better than it is now. cherish your family, those moments are limited. be more outgoing, good friends make all the difference in the world. get all the hugs you can, there'll come a day where you wont get any anymore. spend more time outside, we fucked everything up now. and most importantly, enjoy your happiness. it doesn't stay for very long. take care out there kiddo."
