Thats what I needed, I'm glad this happened to b the first video i came across. I know what to do and I know what not to do. So now at least because of your video I have an honest introduction n2 the trade. That is and was my problem. What u called it an 'information overload' really can b a deal breaker for the sole fact that u have so much information your brain can't process it as specifically as needed which renders it useless. As humans we learn from experience. Through trial and error. Not by a bunch of words

I know this is an old video but.... With the information overload on the internet, there are a lot of "organizations" that claim you are not a real or truly certified locksmith if you don't join. Some provide great information/education but for a price. Some just charge a lot of money for a cheap patch to sew on your jacket. If you must join to feel better, be choosy.

Sounds great over there. Need to finish a 4 year apprenticeship for locksmithing in Australia, so much red tape for anything and everything.

I hope you respond to this and you don't mind me asking. In order to locksmith in Australia do you need to apprentice for 4 years first?? I see that is on the long term skills list for aus so I am curious about that.

Your exactly right.. There's a curtain company all over 75% of the videos under basic headings or searches over explaining every single detail back to the 1800s. In an introduction video under search heading understanding rekeying basics lol 6 min video 4 of with commercials and i didn't learn a damn thing but the uber guy doing the splits. On a poll in his sister's gymnastics outfit has as much to do with locks as a tampon commercial during the daytona 500.. Oh an something about pins changed in 1800 and something..

I have a rather unusual question. I have lots of content on KZitem that are really personal. I am planning on breaking into Locksmithing business despite being a complete beginner and gradually build up my website in the process along with my training. Should I mute those videos? But I feel like if I do then I am editing a big part of myself. I keep telling me that as long as I can provide good value to customers that's all that should matter. But could it also be that calls will start whittling down if people are more concerned about my "KZitem personality" than the value I will offer?

Just some rando here so take my advice with a dump truck full of salt, but ... I would advise you to keep your business channel separate from your personal channel so people don't get mixed results if they're looking for something specific and then you don't even have to worry about it :)

Save some money....Start your own company, get an online presence....Instagram, KZitem, google, pay for lead services/advertising etc...Get the word out to your friends and acquaintances that you're a locksmith....Charge like a company, charge well for your services. The whole point of being a locksmith is to be able to work for yourself and make a good living. Employees make peanuts.

Certifications honestly don't mean a damn thing when everyone can get one... cuts back on BASIC crimes like shimming a door for 800$ or some bullshit, but surly (like any profession or trade) won't keep out bad actors, can even still be done without a license or certification, just lie and charge or use intimidation. Shame things get that way, Good people want to do Good work but get shut down or shut out by lousey half-assed "tradesmen" who don't know anymore or better than the next guy. It's a complicated subject, but nonetheless-- License or Certifications don't make a good locksmith. Time, Effort, Experince and Ethics do.

I am 37 and although my mind keep whispering self-defeating thoughts, I convince myself otherwise. I urge you to do the same. Remember you don't need 10,000 hours to be an expert or anything. You are trying to open doors and rekey people, not be the Leonardo da Vinci of lockpicking overnight! :)
