Very interesting! I hope that this will also offer device upgrades in a local network without internet access. Btw, how are the upgrade images protected from being unpacked and reverse engineered? Are they encrypted?

Hi iAnguel, Yes, a compatible update service can be hosted either on LAN or in the cloud. Connections to the OTA service are secured and the traffic is encrypted. The images stored on flash are by default not encrypted, but we have successfully tested filesystem encryption with this system. Best Regards, Team Toradex

Ok, but can the update service be a simple application we send to a customer so he can run it on a local PC and just points the embedded device to that PC‘s IP address? Or does it require more complex setup? I am concerned about scientific customers that have their devices in a lab that may be without internet access but still need to easily update a device when required.

An update service can be simple - such as a script. Although most commercial options available are more feature-rich web services. For simple updates over a local LAN or in a lab, you may want to explore our article on using OSTree: developer.toradex.com/knowledge-base/ostree. It demonstrates how to push an OSTree update to TorizonCore from your PC. Regards, Team Toradex
