I don’t know my corvettes very well, but that looks to be a nice one. The carpet over the carpet is a bit of an odd discovery though. Makes me wonder what else was done weird… Still a pretty nice example of a beautiful car. (I love the C3)

Great candidate for a resto primarily because its fairly complete, being a '68 there are many one year only '68 parts and often difficult to find. Also fairly original, many 68s have the Stingray script added and the chrome side gill trim from '69 added. Couldn't tell for sure because they use the same trim rings, but looks like 8" rims have replaced the factory 7". Being a Texas car I assume the birdcage and frame are OK. Another video dissecting the numbers matching claim would be fun. Nice car and great color combo. Good luck with resto.

There are no Stingray badges or gill trim. From what I can see of the bird cage, it looks good. I’ll know more when I replace the windshield. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll check the rims and do a numbers video, including the heads and intake. I’ll probably wait until I take the engine out.

@@chadd2715 Yes. 68s did not come from the factory with Stingray badges or side gill louver trim. Louver trim was optional on 69s.

Nice find! Love these cars, I have a '71 that I've owned since 1986. A few thoughts.... check the windshield frame carefully. My windshield cracked like that due to rust pushing up from underneath. I"m not sure I'd spend much time trying to restore the original paint. The old fiberglass sucks the life out of paint. Watch the upper radiator hose, the alternator bracket will saw right through it.

"My windshield cracked like that due to rust pushing up from underneath." This is one of my concerns, but I won't know until I remove the trim and the windshield. I've run into an issue that has delayed my windshield effort. You should see videos on the issue soon.

You’ll want to get rid of the factory coat of paint because it’s lacquer and will no doubt be heavily checked (especially being a Texas car .The wheels don’t look original as they look like 8 inchers and (only ) 68s came with 15 x7s.
@chadd2715

You are correct they are not the 15 x 7. The wider tires look good, but I will change to the original size eventually.

I think you have a solid car on your hands. It's a project car that's going to take some time to get it were you want it. IMO address the paint very last on your list. I own a 77 Corvette that has been parked outside for the past 41+ years with a quality car cover on it. The paint is still in very good shape. A quality cover is not water proof, its water resistant. If water gets through the cover it will let the water evaporate and not stain or impact the paints finish. The problem you experienced is the water got under the cover and sat there which fades the paint. Even with the blotchy paint I would use a light compound and polish before touching the paint. Enjoy it.

Thanks for the heads-up on a cover holding moister. Paint is low on my list. Getting it running, driving, and passing inspection, so I can drive, is my priority.

The C3 has a couple of places that rust. The bottom of the bird cage where it connects to the frame is one. So far I have found no chassis or bird cage rust, but I haven't removed the windshield yet. It is cracked, and one reason a windshield may crack is rust.

Old GM speedometers are so stupid easy to roll back, I would hope they didn’t mess up the job
@chadd2715

You are probably right. Rolling back an odometer for a car this old is pointless, since the odometer only goes up to 99,999 miles. It reads in the 68,000 range which is probably within 10,000 of true. If they would have been able to roll it back to say 25,000 I would have assumed it was 125,000.

spend money carefully because that thing will eat you alive. Not saying don't do it but concentrate on what is important and don't get parts that are not focused on safety, and function untill latter. brakes, universals, bushings, trans service. its loaded which is cool. leave the headlights and wipers for much latter as they will bring you their own special pain..good luck, have fun. You do not have to worry about pulling up next to another one at a stop light.

what happened to the fuel return to the tank line??
@chadd2715
11 ай бұрын
Thanks for pointing out the missing return line. It appears someone cut the original hose and stuck a bolt in it. I think it is original because it still has a tower clamp on it. Before I run the engine again, I'll replace the fuel filter with one that has a return connection. It won't be a 68 correct fuel filter. That will come later.

Why do people blur license plates in videos? Makes no sense. You drive the vehicle, everywhere, with the license exposed ! 🙄 The plate has to be visible & legal to even be on the street. Pointless !
@chadd2715
9 ай бұрын
On the street, a bad actor only has license plate information, make, model, and year of a car. On KZitem, the plate information is immediately associated with a channel name and more. This combination of information can lead to personal information. Also, potential exposure is to millions around the world and forever. Bad actors collect data from any source they can. When they get enough to act, they will. Bad actors are devising new attack vectors and finding ways to attack with less information. With in reason, I try to minimize exposure any way I can. It took a few extra minutes of editing.
