Absolutely great. I am doing something similar in my app but using UILabels. Which way according to you is better and why? My way: I want 24 tiny circles each with a clear fill color and blue border color arranged around a big circle. I am achieving this by using a UIbezierPath, shapelayer and using a FOR loop to create and place 24 labels. And during creating the 24 labels I am giving corner radiis and cliptobounds to make the UIlabels round. What do you suggest?

Great question Nilesh (this is a where a picture would be great, but I think I know what you are asking). To be honest I don't have great rules of thumb or a strong preference either way yet. In the Starbucks App I mentioned I did it via the UIImageView because that was all I knew at the time. But I like the directness and simplicity of overriding drawRect. Obviously both work. My suggestion would be to continue as you are if it is working for you, and then when you get a chance try that other. That way you will have examples of both and can see if you prefer one over the other. Thanks for sharing. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Cristian. You know what? I haven't really found any good books or resources on Core Graphics. Which is a shame because it is so 'Core'. Bad pun sorry. If I come across one I though I will share it here with you. Cheers.

what the reason relies under halfing stroke width? 🤔
@swiftarcade7632
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nodirbek - the reason we half the stroke width is to get the full circle into the frame. Core Graphics paints lines half in and half outside their paths. So if you draw a CGRect and then draw a circle the same width as the CGRect, half will be inside and half will be outside. That's why we need to insight the circle half of its line width. To get the whole thing in the rectangle. Hope that helps!

@@swiftarcade7632 I understand you perfectly 👍, I mean why CG core developers did that
@swiftarcade7632

@@Ipat639 Ah... apologies. I don't know. It may have been convention...meaning that is just standard how paint programs worked back then. And it was probably the easiest thing to reason about. Meaning if they didn't make a path flush with the rectangle, then would have had to compensate in other ways for those cases where they wanted the circle to be flush with the rectangle. I think that is the reason. It was convention and it was easiest to reason about. Thanks for asking!
