Great video man! I have made a few of these to date, and they all seem to produce a very clean signal. I machined the bodies for the last two on my lathe and made them a two piece design that press fits together. This makes the unit very compact and even easily serviceable if the element needs to be replaced.

Nice! My first attempt at making one was a total failure but these sensors made by Mike Nicholson work really well.

Good stuff rich, this sensor modification seems to be pretty good. Glad you shared this 👍 good to see the difference between the two

It took me a while to realize that this is actually measuring the derivative of the pressure/time curve. Baseline was pressure from a moment before, so in contrast with a typical pressure gauge, it measures the rate of change, not absolute pressures.

Nice job sir. It would be interesting to see how the abnormal reading plays out. Curious to see if it's directly or indirectly related to the firing cylinder. Thinking the firing cylinder isn't the one cause the pressure pulse, but instead just serves as a reference. Hope to see you at ASA Super Saturday

If u have a single channel scope and u wanted to know where your anomaly was couldn't disable any easy cylinder which would then enable u to identify the other one? I'm thinking yes. Also, u get a fuel pressure sensor every time u buy a fuel pump so there would b the start. Correct? Thank for a great vid!!

Great video and be safe . Please keep them coming and can you tell me where can i purchase the homemade Pressure Pulse Sensor .

8power0 first visit TBT website and or follow them on FB and look at the ways to win one of these sensors. After the drawing for the 3 lucky winners, give me a shot out in FB and I can see how I can help you. Also keep in mind that the sensors I make are not the FLS that you can get at AESwave nor has the research and development for the quality that the FLS delivers but as you can see function very close to the same.

Thanks Richard. Good video and info. My shop has the WPS500, can that be used in this way or do I need a pulse sensor too?

WPS can be used for all of this type of testing, although I might not wanna stick a $1000 tool in the tailpipe. 😀

I am saving to buy the WPS500x transducer kit. Will it handle reading pressure/vacuum pulses. If so should I hold out on buying the FLS? thank you
@TrainedbyTechs

Absolutely. The difference is a WPS measures the ABSOLUTE pressure as opposed to a pressure pulse sensor measuring the CHANGE in pressure

You are correct I do start off small and buy bigger better things but now what I do is just save my money and buy the best right off the bat so I won't be wasting as much money but scoping is the way to go on these newer cars and so many of my mechanic friends do not understand the value of that

Sorry, the overlay is not exact, and it REALLY sucks for a 6 cylinder engine, there is a learning curve for the overlay and they surely could have done a much better job to design it, hint hint

Sorry, but the overlay works great on 4, 6, and 8-cylinder engines. Also, it is free!
