This is a fabulous way to recycle unwanted books. I buy many from my local library sales...it helps them and I make gifts that friends LOVE. Thank you for more ideas for book gifts. PS. With so many people on nook and kindle we need to make ART. Love and Hugs

Don't be upset at any negative feedback regarding your lovely creations. I'm a total book geek and always said I'd never deface a book. When they're stuck on shelves, gathering dust, turning them into something beautiful is a gift and should not be ridiculed. Keep doing this..... Your ideas are delightful. I've made candles from some of my old paperbacks and my family and friends love them 😀

Our library has many books that we have to discard - outdated encyclopedias, damaged books, etc. Kids turn them into AMAZING art! I think it's a great way of giving a book that would have a less than distinguished end a magnificent new life!

These are really great, thanks for sharing these. I was wondering is there any particular 'age of book' or paper you prefer to work with?
@johwey
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kerry! For this type of project, I'm not particular with the age of the book as long as the pages are flexible (won't crack when I fold them) and the right thickness (not too thick and not too thin) and that the spine is not brittle either so it won't breakdown on me when I'm folding. I find though that the older the book is, the better the paper quality is.

A library's used bookstore is a good place to hunt for old books. I usually have good luck at my local library and I usually just pay $1-3 per book. Flea markets and vintage stores will usually have super bloated prices. A few times I'll even get free old books from Craigslist from people who just want to get rid of their stuff. :)

after the renovations of our local library are done I will be able to go check out their books and have a couple of church book shops to visit as well, and I think I will put up a 'wanted' in a couple of places as well - this is a lot more difficult towards the end of the book than it appears :) I have a greater respect now for all these artists like yourself who do these

@monicaswhimsy9082

sally sanders I work in a public library bookstore in one of the 10 largest cities in the US. Do you know what some library systems do with their withdrawn books? They throw them away or recycle books because they don't have Friends groups or the resources to sell them. Publishers and bookstores are guilty of the same thing. Would you rather have a book wind up in a landfill or be given a second life as a piece of art? Go ask your local library and the used and chain bookstores you frequent and ask what they do with their unwanted books.
@pablofawkes2841

Monica's Whimsy But those aren't the only books being used. If the unwanted books that were about to be thrown away were the only books being used, I'd be fine with it, but this seems to be a fairly new book being folded.

And this is beauty? Really? Excuse me, but i can't understand really this type of art. To kill, something created with imagination, helping to your own imagination to develop. To kill this and make from it just simple thing, who will make more beautifull somebody`s home, but not himself.
