Timor-Leste has over 1,100 Seasonal Workers in Australia. Many have been unable to return home at the end of their contracts due to COVID-19 border closures. In response, the Australian Government has worked closely with Australian employers to ensure that all workers whose contracts expire are offered a new contract and visa.
So far, over 800 Timorese whose contracts ended during COVID-19 have received a new or extended contract. The new contracts offer workers between 3-12 months additional work, substantially increasing their overall income and the remittances they are able to send home to families in Timor-Leste. Additionally, each worker continues to have access to Australia’s world class health care system and the welfare support teams provided by employers, SEFOPE, the Pacific Labour Facility and the Australian Government.
The welfare of Timorese Seasonal Workers in Australia is important to us. For more information you can follow the Pacific labour mobility Facebook page. For information in Tetun visit dnee.sefope.gov....
