Scientists estimate that there are currently 50,000 invasive plant and animal species in America - and that number's sure to rise. Mark Strassmann reports.
When I came back from Scotland in late 1987 the customs man said to examine my shoes and not go to a farm. I could have been carrying Giant Hogweed seeds. Nothing happened then(I did not go to a farm or any cultivated soil) but now Giant Hogweed is invasive in at least 8 states and parts of Canada.

Like kudzu, some of the worst invasive plant species are former federally promoted plants. For example, russian olive, siberian elm, and a particularly aggressive cultivar of eastern redcedar.

Belive you. I seen tube about eating it. They say it’s oily good meat. There are 2 row more small hook bones, but these are salmons size fish. I would try the same way we eat cat fish here. adobo style. Try this sauce. 1 cup Soy sauce 1/2 water 1/4 vinegar 1/4 sugar ginger you can add potato, greens. The vinegar will make the fish or chicken or tough meat so fall apart tender. And it’s a soy sweet fish with ginger back up. Delicious more oily item the better.

The biocontrol approach has worked well in some cases, in others it has caused additional problems. One of the most famous cases is that of the South American cane toad in Australia. Introduced in the mistaken belief they would eat insect pests of sugarcane (they don't), the things are spreading across northern Australia devouring everything in their path. In some cases, a pest of an invasive species in its home range will change hosts when introduced to a new area. In some cases the biocontrol agent fails to thrive in the new environment. In all cases, it takes a lot of time and money to identify good potential biocontrol organisms, conduct tests to see if it will work in the new environment, and try to rule them out as potential invasive species in their own right.

Maybe it was mentioned and I missed it but is there some reason why the Asian carp isn't caught and steamed whole to make into fish protein for making dog food or pellets to feed to salmon fisheries or whatever else we prefer? If people are too picky, feed them to other animals. The bones issue is irrelevant if you toss the gutted fish carcass whole into industrial steam vats and render it all down to protein paste for feed. Feed it to pigs as extruded pellets. Pigs will eat anything so the term invasive is also not relevant there. Perhaps the same solution works for the python and lion fish too. You're welcome. Give any portion of my "commission" to any secular charity. Lol This same segment is running today (Jan 2020) on the CBS site watermarked as CBSN with an Asian American guy doing the host-interviewer role but the footage and voice-over looks identical otherwise.
