Questions I ask:
1. What are some bands that influence you?
a. I hear a lot of old Northlane in the vocals and the sort of progressive metalcore style that Erra gets a lot of credit for even though you guys have also helped pioneer that sound.
2. A lot of the big metalcore bands have been getting softer recently. What do you think the future of metalcore will be?
a. Does it make it harder for bands like you guys to get big when bands like BMTH, I See Stars, and We Came As Romans are getting softer but still occupying so much space at the top of the “metalcore” scene?
3. You guys haven’t had any line up changes (other than Logan Forrest leaving) meaning everybody in the band is an original member 5 years later. How did you manage to all stay together through it all?
4. Your drummer Trey and bassist Caleb both talked about continuing to make music because of Jesus in the band’s AMA on Reddit. There aren’t any religious themes in the music though so I never would have guessed. Is there a reason you keep it so separate?
a. You also said you worded things on ‘Stillworld’ in a specific way, is that sort of to be a little more inclusive of those beliefs?
5. I saw you guys express interest in wanting to do a collaboration with Reflections the way Northlane and In Hearts Wake did. What would have to happen to get that set up?
6. What’s your favorite song on ‘Stillworld’? Favorite song you’ve ever written?
7. Does Trey’s ability to play multiple instruments help with the record writing process? Does he have a favorite to play or why did he pick drums?
8. How do you guys like being signed to Tragic Hero Records? Does it have some perks over being signed to bigger labels like Rise?
9. It seems like the new album has a lot of wintery themes from the art, to the lyrics on “White Wolf” and the overwhelming white in the music video, to the snow falling in the backdrop of each song’s video on KZitem and your lyrics are clearly tied to nature quite a bit. Is ‘Stillworld’ supposed to be a winter themed album?
a. Did you guys plan on that theme or did it kind of arise on its own?
Caleb joins about halfway through and Keaton makes a last second appearance (he was holding down the fort at the merch table).
Thanks so much to the guys in Invent, Animate for the awesome answers. I know it's long but I decided not to cut anything out because it would feel less conversational and die hard fans of the band will probably appreciate everything they say.
