You may be able to find most of the music in De Wolfe's music library and the rest of Sound Idea's music library. Both of their products are extremely common. I also want to note that even if you get in contact with the devs, they can't LEGALLY give you it if it's all stock. The license for those music libraries gives the buyer permission to syndicate (i.e. put into) with a product, but nothing else. They can't legally give it to you, nor anyone else. Thanks for making these videos by the way - I've been working on videos about synths and music in games for about a year and it's awesome to see someone I've been watching for... 6 years I think, tackle that subject as well. I played through all of the demos and mechanix was my favorite. I really really wanted to race the beach level and I remember having dreams about it. My parents were able to find all the games on the demo cd BUT mechanix! So I was stuck playing the demo until I was around 11 years old and I managed to find a pirated copy. Hey I just wanted to say that I come back to your OST deep dives all time. Not purely because I find the subject matter of music preservation interesting (which I do) but mostly because I love listening to you discuss these (what some people would call "shovelware" or "kidware" games from your childhood. As we grow up, we tend to go back to the games of actual quality but also games that are still accessible. So people who grew up on N64 and PS can easily pop in a crappy game they remember, like Jersey Devil or Kingsley (I actually remember both of those being good actually but I haven't played since I was a kid) and relive some cherished childhood memories. But with PC kidware, (games like Hotwheels, Barbie, weird Disney art games etc. Talking of Disney Art games, I played this Disney art studio game for hours as a kid. Wish I still had it) its harder to run those games again. I know its not impossible but most people aren't going to go beyond GOG for running old DOS/Win 3.1 and Win95 games. So to hear you talk at length about a game from your childhood, that is probably not worth talking about and explaining your nostalgia for it, well to me thats beautiful and you dont get that anywhere else but KZitem. Thanks Duraga.

"Royalty free" means you can use it without paying for royalties (in other words, giving them money each time you used it). It's not the same thing as something that's in public domain (which you can use for literally any means). Royalty free music are still copyrighted; thus, you may need to find and check the license first before you can release that cover of the game's song. If the license is not followed, it's still copyright infridgement. With "Gold, Silver, Bronze", for instance, what you're paying for is not the song, itself, but rather a license to use it. There are multiple different options of licenses within various different contexts on which you can purchase in order to use the song within specific contexts. The "End User License Agreement" for royalty free music on that site (including for "Gold, Silver, Bronze") is here: www.proudmusiclibrary.com/en/eula Hot Wheels Mechanix's use of the song might not even be legal; there are no clauses within the song's EULA that permits its use within a video game.
@SpeedySPCFan
4 жыл бұрын
That's a German computer though - if they got the license from Sound Ideas (who are the most popular resource for SFX and one of the most for royalty free music) then they're in the clear. I've used their products before in games and they're very lenient on use within them.
@KarjamP
4 жыл бұрын
@@SpeedySPCFan I can do this all day... www.sound-ideas.com/Collectionn/48/End-User-Licenses The existence of that link further proves royalty free music to not be in public domain. Just because they hadn't come knockng at your door, doesn't mean that it still isn't copyright infridgement. Many unofficial videos used songs from the likes of video games verbatim; doesn't mean they've got permission to do so, nor that it wasn't copyright infridgement. Unless you don't mind being within a legal grey area, you still need permission for a specific context.
@tomysshadow
4 жыл бұрын
To me, it doesn't look like Speedy ever said they were public domain. They were arguing Hot Wheels Mechanix's use of the music would be legal if they purchased the license directly from Sound Ideas, because their EULA states: "You have the right to synchronize the audio content from any Sound Ideas royalty free product with audio and/or visual productions or applications such as [...] interactive programs & computer games"
@KarjamP
4 жыл бұрын
@@tomysshadow Of course, not. The real point of what I'm trying to say was, royalty-free music is not public domain music. (Besides which, a song is already quite legally questionable if it is available under contradictive terms from differing companies; this discrepancy can only be resolved by the song's true copyright owners, themselves.)
@SianaGearz
4 жыл бұрын
It's stupid to suggest that Hot Wheels used the music illegally. Sure it's not permitted by the standard license that comes with an automated shopping cart, but if you contact the stock music agencies, something can usually be worked out, they'll either give you the go-ahead or ask for more money for a separate license, and why would you assume they hadn't done that. How is giving different people different usage rights by the publisher "legally questionable" or i don't even understand what you mean. Also i'm sure Druaga and the participants here are quite aware, this was a joke, and that's why there is a "(It's actually not)" subtitle at 7:40.

Hopefully I'm not too late to the party, but I found the original sources on Sound Ideas! I searched up "jungle" and eventually landed on the first half of the Tiki Jungle soundtrack; turns out it's stored in an "album" that's got a ton of the other songs. There's a couple more of these too; it really seems like the devs just bought the rights to a few of these compilations, slapped them into the game, and called it a day. You can actually listen to the tracks too, but there's this annoying "watermark" that says Sound Ideas every ten seconds or so - maybe it can be cleanly eliminated with the standard vocal removal technique in Audacity? www.sound-ideas.com/Product/206/Mix-VII-Broadcast-Music-Library-Royalty-Free-Music Here's what I've found so far: In Mix VII, "Mix CD 52" In The House - Pluto Mines, 2nd Half Jungle Dance - Tiki Jungle, 1st Half Industrial Revolution - Moon Base, 2nd Half Viscosity - Moon Base, 1st Half Spaghetti Guitar in Space - Urban Wasteland, 1st Half Mind Storm - Urban Wasteland, 2nd Half In "Mix CD 54" Big Breakers - Beachway, 1st Half Wicked Surf - Beachway, 2nd Half In "Mix CD 59" Tribal Tensions - Tiki Jungle, 2nd Half In Mix IV, "Mix CD 33" Dance Attack - Asteroid Belt, 1st Half In The House - Asteroid Belt, 2nd Half (note: this isn't the same "In The House" as above) Sixth Dimension - Pluto Mines, 1st Half Still not totally sure where they found the menu music, but I know I've seen the Construction Site songs floating around before on iTunes - it was named something that touted the fact that it'd been made exclusively from samples of actual construction equipment. I'm going through the site's search engine now to try and find the menu song; I'll post again if I find anything.

I honestly wonder if any of the tracks were licensed, if at all though. It's always gotta be these weird edge cases where if so much time has passed, research becomes nearly impossible. @Druaga1 That mindblow is even bigger for me, I actually had that victory theme in a mmo I used to play in 2004, and still do. It's called Ragnarok Online, meaning you can get that for free on it. I'll extract it today and post a link to it if ya want.

The only thing I remember from this game is the Tiki Island map. nothing else, just the beginning of it. I think I remember just exploring the map and not even trying to race. apparently there was also this game where you could scan cards to get cars? I dont remember it and I havent been able to find it other than the new one thats for android called Hot Wheels id or something.

Hey Druaga, theres still a chance to get better quality audio from those files. Just like waifu2x uses neural networks and stuff to upscale images to to something one could believe to be close to the original, the same could be done to the audio, youd need an smart upsampler or something trained with tracks in 22100 and downsampled to 11050 so it can learn and imagine how the originals sounded. It wont give you the originals, you cant created information out of thing air, but it can output something you can easily belidve to be the original.

Had someone done that, successfully? And you can restore a more pleasant high end for sure, even just using frequency doubling, filter and EQ, but in mono it still won't sound very good, and faking stereo seems even more icky than trying to do upsampling.
