Thanks so much for getting back to me. I've been looking just such a set up for my BT-127XL-SD Binocular Telescope. Your designs seem like just the ticket!

Wonder would it be difficult to get a setup like this to track a moving target, mostly thinking of commercial airliners. I like planespotting but trying to get kids / adults unfamiliar with binoculars to track is difficult

Very cool! Do you still have the binoscope and love it? I am doing research on a binoscope to eventually purchase.

Nice setup, and thanks for sharing Matt. I'm awaiting delivery of the same binos, except in my case I've decided to go with a 90deg model. Have you also tried or considered the TS Optics L bracket to get this bino to mount on side-facing Alt-Az mounts, such as RST?

My pleasure. I really don’t think the AZMP would handle these binos hanging so far out on the side.

Nice set up. Are the bracket and tripod pedestal available commercially or are they custom?

I like to tinker in the garage. I made both the pedestal and bracket. If you have a welder, drill press and a tap and die set… and some patience. These are both easy to make.

Your setup makes me want a pair of large binos. Now that it has been a while, is there anything that you would or did change? Thank you for the inspiration!
@mattmagilke2433

No. I went through three or four iterations before I finally settled on this design and made the video. It hasn’t changed and I still love how easy this works.

@@mattmagilke2433 thank you Matt for the quick response. How did you attach the aluminum bar to the dovetail bar? Did you tap holes or? Any chance you would send me a picture of that connection? I did a screen capture but it doesn't zoom well.

Awesome setup! Am I seeing this correctly, that all parts are stock ADM accessories (with your own holes/tapped threads) *except* the short silver metal bar at the top that ties it all together?
@mattmagilke2433

You're absolutely correct. The ADM saddle and dovetail are bolted together using a 3/4" x 2 1/4" aluminum bar I bought on eBay for $20.

@@mattmagilke2433 Thanks! I’ve seen setups where the counterweight bar itself was used as a way to further balance and support the load. Not sure what magnifications you can achieve with the APM 120mm, but have you found yourself wanting more rigidity or vibration control?
@mattmagilke2433

@@kuanjuliu Not really. The shortest focal length EPs I use in these is a pair of 6.5mm Morpheus giving me about 100x. I have telescopes for high-power viewing. These are mostly for low-power, wide-field viewing. I’m almost always using either a pair of 24mm Panoptics or 12.5mm Morpheus.

Can I move it manually by hand in the horizontal direction?
@mattmagilke2433
2 жыл бұрын
I went back and forth on which way to I wanted the ability to adjust the binocular. I initially put the saddle, which is attached to the aluminum bar, on the binocular with the dovetail (on the bino) attached to the top if the bracket… this allows one to move the binos laterally (left and right). But after further consideration, there is really no reason for me to make that adjustment. I just wanted them over the center of the mount. So I switched the saddle and dovetail to allow me to adjust the binos forward and backwards, instead. I hope this answers your question as “horizontally” can mean different things if the binos are just sitting on top.

Hi ! No vibrations with this mount ?

Do you mean vibrations while focusing? Maybe a little, but I use my binos primarily for low-power, wide-field viewing. My two most used EP pairs are the 24mm Panoptics (27x) and 12.5mm Morpheus.

@@UNOSPE To be honest, I don’t know if using these binos at 150x on the iOptron would work well. The mount is incredibly stable for what I use it for, however. The key is to have the binos balanced as well as possible. The iOptron is a real joy to use.
