I've been using the 8th gen for two years and it has been great for notetaking and looking + marking through PDFs, I'm doing an engineering degree and with Microsoft (OneNote, OneDrive) and Google (Docs, Sheets) services the iPad is a great companion to my Windows laptop and Android phone I started out with handwritten notes but last year I switched to a bluetooth keyboard (the Logitech K380) and the Apple Pencil is now for adding small drawings and schematics to these typed notes and occasional drawing as a hobby. Half of my classmates use the base model iPad too, some of them with the Logitech Crayon since they only wanted it for notetaking and it looks like it's working for them too.

Why did you stop taking notes with pencil? I’m planning on buying and ipad 9. Does the non-laminated screen bothers you when writing on the screen? Is the gap noticable? Did u use paperlike? And did you ever buy new pencil tip?
@przykran
2 жыл бұрын
@@aliciapark6241 The keyboard just suits my notetaking style better and it’s quicker, I’m able to write down more of what my professors are talking about (and they tend to talk about so much more than what’s in their powerpoints), I can write while looking at the board and be more active during the lectures; The non-laminated screen doesn’t bother me, I use a paperlike screen protector and it makes it less noticeable, especially when I have never used an iPad with a laminated screen; My pencil tip is in terrible shape but it still works and I haven’t had to change it yet even to the additional one they provide with the pencil; according to my classmates Paperlike doesn’t work too well with the Logitech Crayon though if that’s one of the options you’re considering
@aliciapark6241
2 жыл бұрын
@@przykran i take notes while professors are talking too. Usually i print their powerpoints (like 4 in 1 paper so it’s small) and write over them. So i take notes quickly normally. If i write on an ipad will it slow me down? İ mean is writing constantly, hard? In my country this apple devices are extra expensive so im trying to make a good decision. İ heard paperlike ruins pencils tip so im confused if i should buy or not. Maybe a matte screen protector? İs it better
@przykran
2 жыл бұрын
@@aliciapark6241 if I had that option I'd probably still be writing with the pencil tbh, it's just that my professors usually send us the PDFs after the lectures writing is as fast as on paper, and a matte screen protector will wear down the tip just like paperlike as it's textured and the friction will wear down the plastic, though if you learn how to use the pencil without much pressure right away you'll probably struggle with the wearing down wayyy less

This was a great video and this isnt in anyways me trying to knock you. This is just a huge pet peeve I’ve been having lately because it seems that EVERY single apple reviewer is doing this. And that is not acknowledging the fact that the Apple Pencil 1 can be charged normally through a regular charging cable with the adapter that comes in the box. I just don’t understand why no one ever mentions this? 🤔🤷🏼 anyways sorry lol great video otherwise, keep up the awesome content 👍🏻 thanks

I completely agree, the iPad 9.0 is great value! The best alternative to the Smart Keyboard folio is simply a standard Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Much cheaper (good ones cost around 40-50$ a set) and that way you can also rock a protective case with a home for the Apple Pencil. Great review!

Great video! Thanks for the test of the new base model :) I work with an iPad Pro 11“ from 2018 and the newest version of the logitech combo touch. All in all it is a great device and reading through books and PDFs in combination with the apple pencil is amazing. However, I noticed some downsides… For my last MA thesis I worked with endnote and pages. It was an essential part of my work flow, on the iPad this combination is not possible. The other big problem for me is the iPad version of pages. For normal papers and shorter essays it is a great option, but once you have to go into detail and have to follow guidelines of the faculty, some more detailed settings from the OS version are missing. Apple could make the iPad the perfect tool for researchers or students who are writing on 100+ pages projects, if they would only make a couple of updates. Especially with the new chips the iPad line up is powerful enough to get the full pages and endnote app… I really hope they take this chance in the future!

This may not be as relevant, but I bought the 8th gen iPad (2020 previous gen) in jan '21. I started college in september of that year and have been using the iPad 8 as my main device for the whole year. It has been an amazing device to work on. I have an amazon alternative pencil paired with goodnotes and it works amazing as a notebook and i've managed to go entirely paperless. The microsoft office apps have enough detail that i've never had to bring an "actual laptop" in and the battery life is amazing. I charge the thing mostly once a week, since I use it for only my college work and a small bit outside of college for homework. It's still really fast too, the only downside is the awful front facing camera, but thankfully the 9th gen sorted that out :). I don't see myself upgrading for a while.
