One thing that’s worth covering- codec selection for RVON. This was a lesson learned the hard way for me. You have to match the codec going both ways, as well as latency, otherwise no audio will pass.

Great episode and really helpful to see the intercom being built from scratch with so many different components. There isn't a lot of video resources around covering IP Edit so this is going to be a favourite.

This is great Rob, wish I had this 6 months ago when setting up an Odin system at my work. One issue I had running our system on our corporate IT network was rapid spanning tree protocol - I had to untick this on our Roameo and KP4016 devices to stop switch ports being shutdown and keep our network administrator happy. - I'm not planning on wiring it up with RSTP redundancy, so this was OK with me.

This is great! Intercom is often one of those things that people work around but never have any real introduction to. I’m glad you are learning the basics early in your career!

I had no idea RTS used DANTE. not sure why they would hide that by using a different name. thanks for the informative video!

They use a “version” of Dante called omneo. It is fully Dante but can’t be controlled by the standard Dante controller.
@jeffhartman7000
Жыл бұрын
OMNEO is a more comprehensive protocol that consists of Dante for the audio plus a separate protocol for control… the two ride along together. That’s why you don’t see information about Dante-only devices showing up in AZEdit: the control portion doesn’t exist for the Dante-only device. To put it another way, Dante is a subset of OMNEO.

When I was setting ip addresses of the odin I was a little stumped by the "control" and "audio" ip for Omeno. What is being used in your video?

Hey! Sorry for the delay. Yes, everything applies to the Adam OMNEO cards, Odin, and OMS.

Can't find an ODIN 2nd hand. If the stations are the old KP12's, what base station should I look for?
@roblipop8797

How many ports are you looking for? I might have a line on one or two. There are resources to blend the legacy connections with the IP connections. Depending on port count and other needs it may make sense to still look for an ODIN. You can plug 16 legacy connections straight into the frame.

Hi! Can I connect my kp12 to kp4016 using frame port in kp4016? I have to bay OEI - 2?

What intercom frame are you using? Odin? Zeus? Cronus? Adam?

I'm using ADAM-M.

Each KP will need to connect to the frame with either a “FRAME” port and cable. Or it will need to connect to the frame with an ip connection. But everything should connect to the frame. Connecting one KP to another KP isn’t a thing. OEI-2 is a bridge device intended to connect KP’s without Omneo to a frame via ip.

Can you connect a 3rd party 4 wire comms system to the Odin frame?
@roblipop8797
Жыл бұрын
Sure. 4w audio passing between intercom systems is the “lowest common denominator” of connecting different comms systems. It’s the “universal language” of comms. Check out my video on the subject.

Hi Rob this is a great video and has really been very helpful. One thing I noticed is that all the kit seemed to have IP addresses already installed as static IPs, does this also mean that DANTE controller was pre configured with Static IP as normally I would let DANTE controller provide the IP address.
@roblipop8797
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lew, the ip addresses need to be in the same subnet. It is possible, and reccomended, that you have a static reserved portion of the subnet where you can place static ip addressed components. This would be a range outside of your dhcp pool but still in the same subnet. I believe that my pc running dante controller was a dhcp provided address. Hope this helps!

The different network connections is security related.

Good call! I also know that many people run media networks separate from control networks. That could be security related as well.
