unless you're angling to get into VR, in which case a 2k phone panel is still too low of a resolution. IMO, I like the note 7's way of handling it. 2K with a slider to change it to FHD and HD. FHD is perfectly fine, improved performance and battery life but it's nice to bump up to 2K for video or detailed pictures or whatever.

Its funny how note users have to tell everyone how they're going to get the note instead. The note is done with because samsung was too cheap to get a legit company to make their batteries correctly. iPhone 7 Plus is the best smart phone out right now all around: Build, Display, Battery, iOS optimization, Camera etc...
@otieno2384
8 жыл бұрын
You know, the Note and iphone aren't the only phones in existence, i wouldn't expect ignorant people to know this though. S7edge has a better camera, battery, display and a better build though not the strongest. LG V20 has a better camera, battery, display and a better build. Oneplus 3 has a better battery, display. etc... The only thing that the iphone has going for itself is ios optimization and it's performance. I wouldn't say it's the best phone all round at the moment.
@vincevo2001
8 жыл бұрын
Trevor it's the best smartphone all around because of the factor of not being left behind. By that I mean it will get every update at the same time as everyone else. That the problem with Samsung and other Android phones other than Nexus or pixel. They get left behind in soft ware update. Infact when android N gets officially released not even 1% of Android phones are going to have it.
@otieno2384
8 жыл бұрын
Vandal Savage So it's the best smartphone all round because you get software updates?, you can even carry around a brick with a screen, but as long as it gets updates its the best device around. That's where ios optimization falls in anyway. Almost all iphones are optimized for the updates. Besides, I'd rather have a better battery build, display and camera and wait 4 months plus for an update than have immediate updates but a phone that lacks in those fields. The phone with better externals and good internals is what is to me the best. But apple are holding back, they could do amazing things but they don't want to. Imagine a Note7(non exploding) with the optimization of ios. That would be the best phone

Enjoying that water resistance? The one android has had for years? Enjoying that low light camera? The one android has already had. Look i have iphones and i love how they just work simply, But apple is just playing catch up and I still hate how big the iphone 7 plus with 5.5" screen is to a Note 7 with 5.7" screen. Iphone 8 should be worth it.

16:55 No i don't think that's right. The water resistance that you mentioned is just that it ENDURED 1 meter of water FOR 30 minutes, meaning that it just passed that standard test with ease. So basically you can keep the phone under 1 meter for much, much longer and it might survive although that was not officially tested (but is definitely possible)

Erica - it's NOT waterproof AND splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions - Liquid damage not covered under warranty. source - Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are splash, water, and dust resistant and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone; refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage not covered under warranty.

It makes no difference as long as they're both 2.4 amp chargers. iPhone 6 and greater can charge at 2 amps and iPhone 5S or lower charge at 1amp. The problem is that Apple still bundles only a 1 amp charging block with their phones. The Anker chargers are less expensive than getting an iPad charger though.

Erica - Thanks for the great review. Your reviews never disappoint me. My wife and I also have the 7 pluses and we are both very happy with them. We've not had any hissing on either of ours, but curiosity has caused me to search it out. That new baffle (now where the headphone jack used to be) is there to equalize air pressure for the altimeter in the phone. When the processor gets hot, air pressure builds up and, because of the new sealed nature of the phone, it has to let air out. From my research, this may be what is causing the whiny noise. Not sure they can do away with it entirely. Also, as a side note, I like your reference verses on your mantle and have noticed on your app screen your Bible app. Just wanted to compliment you not being afraid to show your faith in your everyday life :)

iPhone user for 8 years but when I heard the latest rumors about what the 7 was gong to be I jumped ship and went to the Note 7. Loved it, had to return it obviously and was going to get the replacement when they came out until Verizon came up with the free 7 for turning in your 6. Couldn't pass up a free upgrade(well $200 since I went with the 128GB Plus version). All that being said, I know people rave about the AMOLED QHD screen on the Note 7 and it definitely had it's benefits, it was oversaturated. Although some pictures certainly popped some were just weird or really distorted the colors. I really appreciate the accuracy apple does with the color and display. That to me is more important.

Good job Erica, as per usual, unbiased, precise and in-depth. Unfortunately I am colour-blind. Thus the display of any phone doesn't have to be perfect for me as long as the colour reproduction is realistic and modest. Red always a problem to be reproduced, I wonder why. Can somebody explain? The 7 Plus seems to handle it pretty badly. I find that flagship Xperias don't really have this problem, or am I wrong? Also, I compared Xperia Z5 with Note 7 and I do see Samsung's display is a bit too oversaturated. Anywho, I perceive colour differently. So a bit of enlightenment will be very appreciated.

Apples business model in general has always been "if it ain't broke don't fix it"...which is fine and dandy but it gets to a point where it becomes redundant. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are lackluster at best, and this is coming from someone who ordered one switching from a Note 7. OLED isn't something new and Apple still hangs on to that old display (granted the 7 was a marginal step up). The phone could be so much better in theory than it is...I mean it's just NOW getting ip67

Can someone pass me the popcorn? It really quite an interesting reading the torrent of hatred that otherwise seemingly rational people seem capable of spewing forth in defence of one smartphone or another. Why some people seem incapable of simply enjoying their preferred device without feeling the need to engage in the online equivalent of "mines bigger than yours" is beyond me. If someone else's personal choice of smartphone is so offensive to you that you feel the need to insult, belittle or outright ridicule them, surely it's time to take a step back and take a long hard look at your priorities in life. P.S. Thanks, Erica this was a very informative review.

People who think an AMOLED display is superior by default are ignorant. Objectively LCD is still the better tech at this moment. The only real benefit of an OLED screen is better contrast but the PERCEIVED contrast, the one that matters, highly depends on ambient lighting. OLED still has lifespan issues meaning burn in and temperature shift are not just a possibility but reality. Whites are never pure white and white and grey uniformity is bad, much more problematic than say backlight uniformity of LCD panels. Power consumption is also higher because most content is white these days, including the UI. My last two phones have been the Note 5 and the Nexus 6P and I can't wait to go back to an LCD. Hope Apple waits for the technology to mature more before switching.

That said, even though I've been pretty much an Apple fanboy for years, the iPhone doesn't do it for me anymore. First, it's 2016 and I can't still have access to my files directory or use an otg, and instead of fixing that they've removed another useful port. And of course, on top of that, I'm not spending $1000.

Finally a reviewer who understands color gamut. This is one of the reasons I avoid most Android AMOLED phones as they often are overly saturated and garish, tho some of them you can set it correctly in the settings. Also I absolutely despise Samsungs camera app adjustments to photos, adding saturation, extra contrast in mid-tones. This is an area where the iPhones does a great job at taking natural looking photos.

Hi Erica. As far as faster charging for the iphone 7 plus, apple's new lightning to usb-c charger for ipad, released last year, might be even better than the regular lightning to usb ipad charger. It was designed for the larger 12.9 in ipad pro because with the standard charger, that ipad model charges too slowly under normal circumstances and doesn't really charge while using the ipad at the same time it is plugged in, the ipad having shut off on some people before they're done working. However, I'm sure the usb-c would probably also work like a charm for an iphone. I would recommend it for you to take on your anniversary honeymoon.

It’s very difficult to increase the aperture of the telephoto lens to that of the wide angle lens, as aperture value = focal length/aperture diameter. Also, the real focal length of the wide lens is 4mm, multiplying it to the crop factor of 7x of the 1/3” sensor gives a 35mm equivalent of 28mm. Since the telephoto lens is 2x the focal length, naturally it should equate to 8mm, but since there isn’t enough room in the phone, they reduced it to 6.6mm, and instead made the sensor smaller to increase the crop factor to 8.5x.

if it wasn't for Apple's UI that they design so a 3 year old can use it I'd probably switch to the iPhone. the phone may be fast but the speed advantage that the phone has is lost by the amount of time it takes just to get from point a to point b within the UI. color accuracy is very important to me and i love how Apple isn't out there just making up colors and randomly picking whatever color they want white to be like almost all Android OEM's so I definitely give them credit for that.

Thank you for the explanation. I now appreciate more of the LCD screen on my iPhone 7 plus.

I enjoyed the review very much. The angles and ideas in the shots worked out well. I really like the mantle decor, by the way. Wording-wise on the description of "waterproofing" of the the phone I think would be better stated as "water resistance"...Not complaining just sharing my thoughts. Thanks for taking the time to break down more specifics of the phone.

Apple's LCD is among the best when it comes to angle of view and sharpness. That's why two generations later with the iPhone 8 and XR, Apple continues to use it on some models. Also no burn-in to worry about.

9:55 no it's not all like having a 64 gb phone and a 64gb sd card. You can remove an sd card . . .

May they can make a Y adapter so you can use wired headphones while charging - unless they share common connections...

Hey Erica i would not recommend you to charge using the iPad charger as it pushes in more current then the one that came with it, thus degrades the battery life in the long run. about the hiss issue you may want to try a full reset then install the 10.2 update ( backup the data first) Hope this helps!

Not correct. With past OMLED screens this was true. However, Samsung is using a brand new OMLED display with the Note 7 that has an all new pixel array.

+Dan K who are you addressing? Actually it is still pentile. It's called diamond matrix pentile just like I told you. Note 7 uses that very array. It's been shown over and over. www.anandtech.com/show/10559/the-samsung-galaxy-note7-s820-review/2 check this out for quick reference.

You will see the 3.5mm jack on the next iPhone just as much as you will see an CD drive on the next Macbook. And yes, they are right. Wireless is the way to go. The timing though may be debatable, some may say it is a bit too soon. But make no mistake, audio wired connection will be a history just like steam cars. Otherwise nice video, you seem to know a lot about gadgets (unusual for females)

I can only say that my rose gold version of this exact model does make a noise and keeps relatively cool (however that could be due to me comparing it to my old S6 which got pretty warm).

Nice review. I have the matted black Iphone 7 plus. I agree with most of what you said. My only problem is the battery life. Unless its on the desk or in your pocket or purse you do not get all day battery life. If you play games and watch you tube videos you will be charging this phone by 2:00 p.m. You might get about 30-40 minutes more battery life than the 6S plus. If you got the 6S plus this is not worth the upgrade. I am thinking of returning mine and waiting for Iphone 8 plus. Then I will have some "courage" and mainly my earphone jack. I really miss the earphone jack.

The Note 7 Super OMLED does not have such an issue with the missing subpixels ;-)
@EricaGriffin
8 жыл бұрын
+Dan K yes it does. It's just so high resolution that you can't see them. All the currently gen amoled displays are diamond pentile
@Great_America

...and it's not simply a change in using diamond pentile pixels. The Galaxy S5 had that, so no this is a new kind of display in the Note 7. If it were the same display, it would look the same and not a lot better.
