IPL 2025 Maximum 6 players can be retained.
Will the player retain 4 or 6? How many players will he directly retain and on how many players will he give the Ratma card?
1st Retain Players 18 Crore
2nd Retain Player 14 Crore
3rd Retain 11 Crore
4th Retention 18 Crore.
5th Retentions 11 Crore
It is compulsory to have at least 1 Unkappad player among the 6th retained. The Unkappad player retained will have to pay only 4 crores.
So if CSK retains all 6 players, then the total balance of the team is 120 crores and out of that 79 crores will go away.
This means CSK will have only 41 crores left in the auction. So maximum the team will retain 4 players, 3 Capped + 1 Uncapped
(18 CR, 14 Cr, 11 Cr, 4 Cr.)

IPL 2025 Retention: List of Players Retained by CSK Ahead of IPL Mega Auction Over The Years.
the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council announced the player regulations for 2025-27 cycle, including the much-awaited rules for retentions among many other guidelines.
As per the IPL announcement, teams can retain a total of 6 players from their existing squad. This can be either via retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) card, meaning teams can also opt to release all their players and use the RTM at the IPL mega auction.
The retention is also limited to a maximum of 5 capped players (either Indian or overseas), and a maximum of 2 uncapped players. The uncapped rule also has a new twist with an old rule returning after three years.
As per re-instated uncapped rule, a capped Indian player will become uncapped, if the player has in the last five calendar years not played in International Cricket or does not have a Central Contract with BCCI. This rule existed from 2008 to 2021 before being scrapped.
Chennai Super Kings could be one of several teams that could benefit from the move as it allows them a chance to retain their marquee player Mahendra Singh Dhoni at just Rs 4 crore. But there is not clarity of if the Chennai-based will use the option.
CSK may opt to retain four players and use two RTM cards at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, scheduled to be held later this year either in November or December. The deadline for teams to announce their retentions is on October 31, 2024.
