This is an interesting series you've got here. TBh for a while now Hajime No Ippo has been hella inconsequencial, so many chapters barely moving the story along in any way. But when ippo trains and when he has these sparring matches you get a really hyped sense that he could potentially return to the world stage as an aboslute beast. I think now the only thing he's lacking is a clear goal. What if Ricardo kills Sendo in the ring or forever ruins his career as a boxer, do you think that would be enough to get Ippo back in the ring and give him a clear reason to fight the man at the top?

I always tought that it has to be Miyata who lures him back to the ring, There has been a long buildup but i dont consider Ricardo as the endboss of Ippo. It always has been Miyata and i dont think it should be anyone else. Morikawa likes to portray every aspect of boxing and ippo never had to struggle with his weight, and thats gonna happen only if he goes either up or down in class, and since Miyata is in a heavier weight class AND the troubles of going up in weight class was never really portrayed in the manga before, even though it also has its own problems. George San-pierre the MMA fighter talked a lot about having big issues gaining weight to fight at middleweight.

putting Ippo into the role of Coach was such a fantastic idea from Morikawa, like Ippo was always presented as fairly straightforward and direct in his thinking which I think inadvertently makes us think of him as maybe less intelligent or mentally capable than he is, but he maintained solid grades when he was in school and has shown good critical thinking skills at various times along his journey, correctly identifying and analyzing various important aspects about both the sport of boxing itself and the diverse opponents he faces. giving him the mantle of an instructor after his retirement is not only allowing his cerebral side to shine through on the page but it's also letting Ippo develop and hone it into yet another tool in his boxing arsenal, his inevitable comeback is gonna be wild
@HaxeRain

Whoever is his comeback match, i assure you, Ippo is gonna be such a monster that he forces that person to retire or suffer permanent damage, like Hayami, it should be such a commanding fight even more so than Karasawa's title fight, him learning using hte mitts and coaching has developed the side that his trainer didnt let build at the later stages of when he was still active, like, early ippo could be thought of such a raw talent with how it learned and figured things by itself, like analyzing hayami midfight, developing the dempsey roll by himself without knowing about it, learning by heart how to deal with outboxers and such cases, but then he became obssessed with the dempsey and was becoming another Hayami unironically

Since mashiba thinks he is fighting a southpaw but ippo is a fake southpaw and original orthodox this spar can do so many ways

@@rockingby3306 While your great point was made about Mashiba winning in the spar being the more agreeable or logical outcome as an active boxer, my upset I seek is more so against what some fans who hold to the thought that Ippo would dominate the session look for. I love the shock provided by the fact that Ippo has not dulled as Mashiba expected or stuck to his old face tanking tactics but, prompted by the direction you provided, I think I would want an outcome where Ippo's concern about hurting Mashiba was not as realized as he feared and Mashiba being unable to dust off the retiree's blows as he had hoped. And to add to what you provided, I think I would like to also see Ippo realize that he has been using South Paw tendencies (minus the lead with his left foot) in prior matches. In short, I want to see the upset that will help both fighters grow from whatever assumptions they arrived in the ring with. Yet I need for Mashiba to protect that right arm if Ippo is going to use his left for hard hits and haymakers this round.

surely this shows that Ippo didn't need to retire he just needed an extended leave to recover from damage, the extra time away he polished areas he wasn't good at becoming a whole different beast, holding mitts taught him to parry and block punches which if he had that trick probably wouldn't of made him such a charging bull with the peekaboo style and now adding a switch stance to south paw means hes become more hybrid and able to come at you from either direction with same snap and power, this equilibrium could also probably benefit his Dempsey roll. Clearly we can all see that everyone else all sees Ippo is evolving and is going to get back in the ring the only question is what will be the driving force. Clearly from talk with takamura though harsh established that what Ippo was lacking was the monster drive to be at the top to have that drive he needs a goal his only goal was a another fight with miyata but as pros and more and more that fight was dodged the more i think it hampered his resolve until he didn't know what he was fighting for just to win or just to be a champion and he has so many successful defenses no one could argue his record as a professional. But to break into the world stage he didn't have the mindset or desire. What will be the catalyst clearly Ippo is feeling a kind of way with his "friends" or people hes beaten going on to bigger heights Vorg being a world champ, Mashiba and Sendo both set to challenge for titles. Right now i'd say he's distracted with the trainer mentality that its his prime focus why he's more fixated on helping Vorg and Mashiba from a trainers agenda and maybe after the two he's training up are established boxers then Ippo may get on track to a goal but that feels sooooo far away

For me, HNI was taking place somewhere in the 80-90's (and the poster for the various figth all indicate the year being 199x, so ...), but the widespread usage of smartphone set it more in 2010-2020, even currently maybe ( everybody - even Kumi - as a smartphone, Hippo just being a low tech guy - which I can totally relate to - ). This does not change the story, I supose the author decided to move his story more into the present day. Maybe the fews next chapters will discuss the impact of social media on the boxing world (it's certainly curently heading this way), if this evolution give room for more comedy, i'm all for it ! So, internet and social media are a thing in HNI, no wonder how Hippo could watch lot of figth of Gonzales or Rosario.

@Thereadingcrow just to answer the last question that you had posed in the video, please look through the recent chapter 1439, in which after getting punched on his face by mashiba during the extended spar, he inadvertently switches to orthodox style only to switch back to southpaw on being mentioned by Mashiba's trainer so punches could be used as a leverage to switch to an alternative style. So getting punched could be a great tactic to switch to different styles

You can absolutely fight with your dominant hand forward, we have a couple of right-handed southpaws at our gym, but you HAVE to dedicate time to developing a strong left cross

The only thing I want is for Ippo to really reveal the monster thats inside. Outside of the ring he will allways be the kind loving young man. But I for once want Ippo to just storm the ladder with a balanced and ruthless mix of Kawogama's strength and Ginpachi's superb tactical insight, speed and timing, both sets of boxing tempered by his hard won experience against the best he ever fought against like Sendo and in his world title challenge. I want in the ring to see the boy go away and the champion to be born.

He was always been destined to return since he is the mc. But ever since his retirement, the author had opportunities to develop other characters. Now that they are stronger and are close to becoming world champ, ippo is getting much closer to his inevitable return

Did any of u notice, that the timeline of ippo was switched??, before those new chapaters, the story seemed to be happning in the late 90s early 2000s(The story starts from 1989 when the manga launched, and u can see the boxing posters alluding to this as well). But in those new chapaters, Itadaki pulled off a smart phone lolol, and even mentioned their version of twitter in the lastest chapater(That was dedicated to twitter and them reacting to posts lolol). In the wiki written that ippo was born in 1973 (Making him at least 40 years old+ in the current times line, and takamura as well being born in 1969 according to the wiki). The story now is most likely in the 2010s or maybe 2020s?? This also means that the coach and Nekota are now 90+ year old, well thats pretty common for Japanese to be long living, and Both Nekota and The coach most likely still physiclly train. Nekota being that fit in his 90s, and living by himself is more amazing then it seems. So now Ippo was most likely born in 1993 and Takamura in 1989, making them millenials, or even much later since they are still in their 20s, takamura is in his middle-late 20s so he most likely was born in 1991-92, while ippo was born in 1995-7. And itadaki is a zoomer , like Ippos students.

something that crossed my mind not to long ago after rewatching the anime and going through a few chapters makes me think sendo is going to beat Ricardo Martínez because of 1 thing Fujii said during ippos second fight against sendo, he said "as a journalist i wish that these two were fighting on a much bigger stage" i dont have anything else to backup that this would happen but i am so excited to see how things are going to play out in the manga
@tropicturtle9021

Honestly I really don’t want Sendo to be the one to beat Ricardo. Ricardo has been built up too much as an untouchable boxing god, he absolutely needs to be the final boss. Having him go out under any other circumstances would just feel lame.

I’ve been skating for 16 years and boxed when I was younger, skating gave me this idea quite some time ago. Southpaws aren’t used to fighting other southpaws, for the most part, I feel like if more people started focusing on being good in both stances much like how skaters try to focus on being good at switch stance as well as their regular stance, it would open a different realm for so many people.
@MrBenjaminteh

I used to have the same thought, but quickly realized that there’s a reason even people competing on the world stage don’t switch stance as much. And it’s not just in the offense but the defense. In southpaw stance the distances of all the punches are different, not just for the opponent but for yourself also. So whatever advantage you’d gain in offense would be offset by the disadvantage you also acquired in defense. Simply put, learning another stance is almost like learning another set of martial arts. And when you’re talking about elite fighters, where everyone trains their ass off. Trying to learn two boxing styles sometimes is not as advantages as just mastering one.
