"if you start conservatively, you risk building slow habits which lead to hitting a point where you can't improve with your current approach." I feel like you were talking directly to me. It's so hard to retrain and it resets each track. I'm taking this to heart this time!

Thanks for the tips, I’m very new to oval racing! Let me guess, you don’t race in real life right? I drive a bmw e36 track car and the approach with overshooting and wrecking it first is very hard to do when you learned to race with your life on the line and god forbid you carry such habits over to the real track. So for everyone wanting become a real driver some time in the future, old habit die hard so better not start wrecking intentionally

You do have privileges in a simulator that you wouldn't have in real life, but I'd like to remind you and everyone else that if what you say about the aggressiveness of your approach to learning the limits of your car were true, then real life Racers would always be completely slow and have extremely bad habits that they can't break. I always try to drive the same as I would in real life, and, unfortunately, being extremely aggressive when you're learning how to do something and crashing your car several times is simply not realistic in real life.

DJ in my short time with iRacing, I've already learned that with Oval Racing, you are an AUTHORITY on the subject. Dude, the time you put into these videos REALLY makes a difference for those of us that are employing what we learn here.. Thanks so much man!!

Hey brotha, so I got a question. Im class b in oval with a 1700 irating. Sad part is that I cant keep any other car besides the rookie legends car on the track. I understand throttle and brake control and all but what would you recommend for a stepping stone car that I should learn next?
@DJYeeJay

The arca car is a perfect stepping stone car because it goes to every type of track and it is relatively low powered. Also I tell people if you can be fast in pickup cup, you can be fast in any NASCAR

I used to qualify well at big track(Talladega, Daytona, etc). But don't anymore. Can't figure out why. What's the secret?

Let your car track out as far as it wants to off the corner. This carries extra momentum off the straights

I am using thrustmaster t150 that is at 10 years old should I upgrade to something different to help me get better. I only been in iracing for a year now. B

I personally don’t think a direct drive wheel makes a big difference for oval outside of some added immersion. If you were to upgrade I would go for v3 pedals first
